So your saying if kicking team kicks the ball and receiving team tries to recover on two yrd line an they see that they can't quite control it they can just bump it into the endzone like they were trying to posses it an get it on the 20yrd line instead of having to take it on the 2yrd line.. yes this makes sence.... not! It's got to be a live ball..

High school only. Same rule that kills the kickoff when it goes into the end zone.

 

Wrong about "no negative consequence." If the kicking team recovers BEFORE the EZ it's their ball.

You might well be right. Having said that, I'm wondering whether we might have dueling rules here. In other words, if there's a rule that specifies that a punt becomes a live ball if it touches but is not possessed by a member of the receiving team -- and that whichever team thereafter recovers said live ball takes possession -- then perhaps that takes precedence over the goalline-touchback rule.

 

Been looking for the complete KHSAA football rulebook online, but can't find it. If anyone has a link, that would help. Thanks.

G put the rules up in post 41 so when you find the rule book you can use the rules numbers he posted there to look them up.

Maybe the rest were at Mass, watching the Bengals, Christmas shopping? In their defense a few may have intended to go under the old dates but in reality when it is the 4th in a row and what 8th or 9th time since 2005 you are not going to get the casual fan to drive over 4 hours.

 

I'm told by a fan in the stands that NewCath had over 300/400 folks in attendance. However, watching online it didn't look like many.

Correct. Saw that post. I'm also trying to determine what the rules specifically say re: punt recovered by kicking team. If the rule simply says that whichever team recovers ball gains possession after ball is touched by receiving team, then we appear to have competing rules.

Ok it's rule. A tough break for NCC. I don't think it's a good rule and high school rules need to get more inline with college rules to end confusion. Another dumb high school rule is that there is no out of the tackle box throw aways like college and pros. It's intentional grounding in HS.

You're wrong though... so..... ok ...so I punt ball to you ... it lands on one yard line .... instead of you taking poss. of ball on one yard line all you have to do is muff it into the endzone..an receive it on the 20yrd line??? act like you're trying to jump on it then knock it across the goal line...????
