Does anyone have the rule to post. I'm very interested in this and would like to see the language of the rule. Normally the don't just assign any crew to the state championship game without just cause.

Big difference is 20 yard line versus end zone in high school rules.

This is the first time I've ever heard of a "saved by the (bell) goalline" rule at any level of football. There has to be a negative consequence for touching but not recovering a live ball within the field of play.

Not disagreeing with all of you on this at all, just curious. From where I was I couldn't see that end of the field. Did the ball bounce off a MF player before going in the end zone? That might change the result to a td if it did. Again, not disputing anything.

Same thing happened in a Trinity game this year, can't remember the team. If the receiving player never posses the ball it's still a kicked ball and as soon as it crosses the goal line it's a dead ball and a touchback.

You Mayfield Fans are all wrong, this should have been a touchback. You won the game, but you have to come up for air and face facts.

 

Sorry Guru. You are wrong out of the gate calling it a muff. A punted ball is only dead when it crosses the goal line untouched. This one was touched and recovered for a touchdown. Go big red!

The ONLY way that it would have been a TD is if the kick had ended (possessed) by NCC, then fumbled with Mayfield recovering it in the EZ.
