Belfry vs. Newport Central Catholic

I think NCC wins this game. They will stack the box to stuff the run and get burnt several times through the air.I have been saying that the new QB this year is just as good as Deihl was last year and this game will show that to be true.

I will have to take the "Red Army" of Belfry in this one... Belfry always has a hard nose team that will run you into the ground if cannot man up and hit them... NCC plays more of a finess style of game which I think will hurt them.... And remeber Belfry is one of the toughest place in the state to go into and win!!!

Belfry-35 NCC-14

Wow MVP, some prediction! I can only hope you are wise, but the reports I have been hearing coming out of the "Red Army" camp speak of hunkering down, putting up and good fight, and hopefully outlasting the horsemen from the North.

Having a little fun with the war analogy. :D

So .. how do the Pirates look this year CamField, just curious I havent heard much so far this preseason.

No idea MS. I just have heard through the gossip trail that there are some early season concerns. Particularly, line play isn't as far along as some have hoped. Knowing the history of Coach Haywood's teams, each day is bringing slow and steady improvement. I for one am concerned with a lack of big play capability in the backfield. Perhaps Corey Chapman can step into the roll Maynard played last season. Corey did have some long runs, but this season the Pirates will need more of that against the top competition. On a positive, I watched Corey over the baseball season, and he looked very fast.

As always, I worry about ball security. New Qb and new center could = fumbles! We shall see. I'm going to the game looking to see a firery effort with potential to get better. If Belfry wins, thats icing on the cake.

I agree, I think Belfry will get better with each passing day in practice. I am hearing thier line is pretty quick this year, but I know exactly what you are saying about the big play capability, but then again we are blessed to have two 1000 yard backs returning this season. I think if the QB settles in and gets comfortable and we can play some pass defense then we will come away with a good season.

I keep seeing a lot of NCC players spending their evenings at Bw-3. Should they be hanging out in there in the evenings???

Kids can't go out to eat and watch a few games on TV in their down time? Rough crowd...

They have been going there on Tuesday nights for years.

What will the travel route be for NCC?

It's not like they are hanging out with Johnny Moxon and Billy Bob listening to "Hot for Teacher" if you know what I'm saying. They are meeting at a pretty central location for the team, where they eat and hang out like say, 99% of other high school students would do. Like another poster said, NewCath players have been doing this for years.
