Belfry vs. Newport Central Catholic

Featured Replies

This game does have a lot of potential, I believe with it being the first game of the season that both teams will have some kinks to work out, Belfry is traditionally a slow starting team, I look for both teams to settle down by halftime and for the second half to be more telling of what both teams really will be able to do against one another, I for one am hoping this game turns out to be closely matched, I dont forsee either team running away from the other.

Yeah...NewCath never plays in highly anticipated and heavily attended games. Breaking new ground here.

I am pretty sure you missed this one.I am 99% sure he was being sarcastic. You probably never been to a Beechwood/NCC game.

I was returning his sarcasm. He said NCC had never been in a highly anticipated/heavily attendend game - which was NOT what my post was referring to at all. I have been to at least 10 Beechwood games. Beechwood's crowd is about 1/20th as intimidating as Belfry's, MAYBE (not a knock on Beechwood at all, very hard to win there). NCC team and fans will have to experience it for themselves at Belfry. BTW, I'm not a Belfry fan.;)

^^^^everything he says is SOOOO true. I am not a Belfry fan either. (Although I root for all the Pike County teams!):thumb:

Protest if you want, billyray and Zeus, but we know you are really Pirate fans deep down in your hearts where it counts.

I root for Belfry quite often, but alas, Pirate fans do not return the love.:D

Another thing to put in with the crowd is NCC has a new qb. NCC has defintley played int he big game but the qb will defintley have jitters especialy in the first half. And a wild crowd like Belfry does have wont make that easier for him. Belfry plays in tuff places all the time just like NCC does but it doesnt mean that the crowd still dont affect you some. It won win or loose a ball game but it is an advantage to Belfry.

Harris will be just fine I'm sure he'll have a few jitters at first but no way does it affect him the whole game. I'm pulling for NCC in this one good luck Breds.

Belfry will have a new QB too, and playing in front of the home crowd carries a lot of pressure.

This will definitely be a Belfry crowd, but it will be mixed, being that it is the Pike County Bowl. I expect a HUGE crowd, like last year, but not all of them will be for the Big Red. Should be a great atmosphere.

With both teams breaking in new faces on offense, this will be a big defensive game, IMO.

^^^I am expecting a low-scoring game as well. Will be a great atmosphere, I plan on making the 25 mile trek to see this one.

The "imtimidating crowd" comments are a joke.

Seriously--what makes the Belfry crowd any different than any other team?

Are they louder?

Do they storm the field all the time so the kicks have to play the fans as well?

I have played/coached in a lot of football games--and the crowd is something that 99.9% of the players/coaches block out. (And the few times that I haven't been able to block it out--it was Beechwood/NCC).

You guys make a better argument with the QB comments. Harris is a good player--but he hasn't played QB in a real game for a few years. And--it would be different if he was playing in a easier offense. But he isn't. As I said before--if he plays half way decent--NCC has a chance to win. If he plays really well--NCC has a very good chance to win. If he plays bad--NCC has very little chance to win.

You guys need to get off the crowd thing. That is as weak as it gets!

In all fairness, it wasn't Belfry fans pumping the crowd.

Belfry's crowd is big and loud, but it isn't nearly the factor at CAM Stadium as it was at Vipperman, IMO. At Vipperman the crowd could really be intimidating for a couple of reasons, but at CAM, I don't think the layout lends itself to the same type of atmosphere.

This is the kind of inter-class, intersectional matchup that I love to see during the regular season with two teams that could be playing deep into the postseason. Just wish it wasn't on the other side of the state.

Come on, westsider, make the trip. Surely we can find somebody to put you up for the night and save you a nights lodging. :D
