After Beechwood came back from 14-0 1st Quarter deficit, the Tigers firmly held all the momentum leading 21-14. Pikeville hit a short pass on 3rd and 6 to Blake Charles who rumbled 67 yards for the TD to tie the game heading into the 4th.

 

From there it was all Panthers. Pikeville went to the power game under Center and just pounded the Tigers the rest of the way. Once the lead grew and the Panthers had a key stop to turn it over on downs, Beechwood sold out to stop the run and Pugh and Charles made them pay with long runs to ice it.

I really thought Beechwood was going to take control of the game after taking the lead. It was a fun game to watch.

I thought Pikeville played Slusher really well.

 

Slusher, as all great players do, made plays and gained the extra yards when needed.... but he rarely got free for any large chunks.

 

Pikeville's LB quickness gave Beechwood fits all night and though they were undersized the Pikeville line did what they have done all year and just got the job done with their toughness and technique.

Congratulations to Coach Mac and the Panthers. Great game and great team. Glad to see you bring home a championship to Pike County.

 

That is a really nice 1A team and a great performance.

 

Pugh is a beast and Cody Charles #33 does a little bit of everything and does it well.
