A true statistical distribution would have 40 in 3a and 39 in both 2a and 4a. Whether based on districting or some other motivation, fact remains you are creating an artificial splice that unnaturally crops DS into 2a. If pure math had been applied, the largest team in 2a would be the smallest team in 3a. I'm thankful that didn't happen. I would hate for Mayfield to win a title only to have the haters say, "that's great, but you didn't beat the defending champs." Fortunately, the classes fell the way they did allowing MF to prove their point on the field.

Because two schools (East Ridge and Monroe County) have more males enrolled in grades 9-12 than CAL and less than DeSales, and 149 schools have more males than DeSales.

 

Honestly, given that you're the poster who claimed that DeSales had 600 students I'm less than inclined to believe any numbers you give.

Also, I mentioned earlier that Mf is a "system" team. Same system that handed Coach Davis his other playoff loss.

I don't think enough crow has been eaten on here by the DeSales posters! IMO O Cath was a better team than Desales. Defense....... not close to Mayfield's, their offense was not a top 10 Offense...not sure where the hype came from.

Thanks for the kind words about my son. He had a great 1st quarter, but once the defense began keying on him, we didn't seem to have an answer. I never dreamed we would lose the game in the trenches, but that's exactly what happened. The better team clearly won the game. Very proud of our boys, and it was a pleasure to meet some of you guys. As an O Cath fan.. I got to watch most of the 2nd half via the online stream. I was not impressed with DeSales. I heard they jumped up 13-0 early but they looked like they were to one dimensional. I felt O Cath didn't play their best and dropped way too may balls and had 5 turnovers I believe. But I will say Mayfield's defense is responsible for a few of those and they have a very good and fast defense. I think the outcome may have been slightly different if the game was played at Steele instead of War Memorial but it wasn't and that's part of the Mayfield mystique. I will also say DeSales fans came in way too cocky. Should be alot of been alot of crowe eaten this week from them.

 

Good luck Mayfield....even though we are private catholic school like DeSales and NCC.. I've been cheering for you all since our game.

How can a school only have 300 boys and 100 of them play football? That's an unheard of number.. Even the most tradition rich programs aren't close to that %.. Trinity has 1300 boys and 200 play football, Highlands has 400 boys and 80 play football, Mayfield has 200 boys and 50 play.. Male has 100 but they also have 700 boys.. Just curious, is there a clause in your qualifications that state you must be a great athlete or play football to attend..

 

Making an educated guess at the numbers here, Beechwood has 185 boys with about 60 playing football (9-12). That is the close to one third, like DeSales. You have to include freshmen in your numbers because DeSales has freshmen dressed in that 90 on the sideline. At least that is what I have been told or read.

I was at the game and thought Desales made things harder than they had too. They were having success with their base power run game with some counter boot thrown in and got a little too cute. One thing about playing MF is if you are doing something well you don't go away from it because as soon as you are in 2nd and 15 and HAVE to throw you are in trouble. They should have run about 4-5 different runs with some bootlegs thrown in and let the QB make more plays with his feet and they would have been better off. I have to say I was impressed with the athleticism of the QB.

Listen to Coach Morris in the locker room and on the field.. That's a very confident coach and that confidence works it's way down to the assistants and players and they're never in fear of losing.. Just play the next play and when the day's done, if you've done what the coaches have asked out of you, you'll come out the victor..
