How can a school only have 300 boys and 100 of them play football? That's an unheard of number.. Even the most tradition rich programs aren't close to that %.. Trinity has 1300 boys and 200 play football, Highlands has 400 boys and 80 play football, Mayfield has 200 boys and 50 play.. Male has 100 but they also have 700 boys.. Just curious, is there a clause in your qualifications that state you must be a great athlete or play football to attend..

 

DeSales has been quietly building their program for the past decade, and they are now a valid option for many of the CSAA football kids, who used to only go to Trinity or St. X. The school is open to anybody who can pay tuition, and they don't exclude based on academic or athletic performance. I would guess they get their numbers from a solid influx of CSAA and coaches/administration being really good at getting kids on the field.

 

Though, I'm a Trinity fan so I don't know the details.

Hi I'm first quarter Desales and I have direct tv, and I'm quarter's 2-4 Desales and I have cable. had to throw that in there. Again congrats to mayfield and hope to see you guys next year.

 

I thought Mayfield was playing the '85 Bears in the first quarter. #5 was running like Walter Payton. #16 was completing crucial 3rd down passes, or running wild for huge 3rd down conversions, just like Jim McMahon. You had guys on the line that would make Refridgerator Perry and Richard Dent proud. And then Mike Singletary makes a pick 6! (forgot the players #)

 

DeSales had this game in the palm of their hand. But Mayfield did what Mayfield always does; adjust. They sold out on defense to stop the run, and the QB run. They put 7 guys on the O-Line and ran the ball through the heart of the Colt defense. Sprinkled in some timely passes. I don't think anyone in the state of KY would have believed that Mayfield could beat DeSales at their own game; line 'em up and run over them.

But yeah, if they continue to grow then DeSales will probably get bumped up to 3A during the next four-year alignment.

Yeah I have to agree. Their workouts rutines are insane. I just so happen to workout in the facility one day and I watch half of the rutines. Champ has those boys working non-stop. He even joins in with the boys.

OC has an offense that makes DS offense look like something from the 1940's. DS has been shutout TWICE this year. DS will be lucky to score against Mayfield.

 

Speed is a killer weapon on the gridiron, but only if you know how to utilize its potential. I will let you compare Mayfield's past success on the field against Fern Creek's, Butler's, Ballard's, and Fairdale's. Let us know who you think is the better coached and disciplined team.

 

I expect Mayfield will expose some weaknesses in the DS secondary, weather permitting. It looks like it's going to be a sloppy field Friday night.

 

Make sure your coaches walk the field before the game. Plenty of high/low spots out there to trip a guy.

You are right. We have plenty of speed, more than most but the thing most don't get (outsiders) is how much heart this team has. Zero quit....this is an amazing team. As for the best defense..........in 2A , after the1st quarter DS got one late score.

Hmmm, there's something suspicious here. Just glancing at it, it jumps out at you that the 2a/3a line should be drawn at 315. >= 315 would be 3a, i.e. ranks 111-150, not 111-149. Evenly distribute that chart without looking at the names and I guarantee you the 150th team goes into the 3a bucket. Someone, somewhere made a conscious decision to magically draw that line such that the DS would remain in 2a.

Shrug, 3A has 39 teams and 2A has 39, not including DeSales. The organizers probably put DeSales in whichever class made districting easier.

A true statistical distribution would have 40 in 3a and 39 in both 2a and 4a. Whether based on districting or some other motivation, fact remains you are creating an artificial splice that unnaturally crops DS into 2a. If pure math had been applied, the largest team in 2a would be the smallest team in 3a. I'm thankful that didn't happen. I would hate for Mayfield to win a title only to have the haters say, "that's great, but you didn't beat the defending champs." Fortunately, the classes fell the way they did allowing MF to prove their point on the field.
