The Hawks have drafted some decent people in the past (Terry, etc.); the whole culture of that team has been demolished.

 

The Hawks just suck. The Knicks and Celtics, one would think, would have some advantages considering their team's histories and the media glamour of them both.. Instead, the Celtics pick up Rondo (not a good fit in Boston, imo), Telfair (which I believe Portland is happy to get rid of)... Maybe Joe Forte is ready to be the impact player we all knew he would be in the NBA. The Knicks, they take the NIT MVP and another swing guard (the best of the four pickups in my book).

I really think New Jersey made out like a bandit in this draft. They got solid talent to add depth to an already talented team. Very good draft by the Nets. The opposite end of the Knicks, Celtics and especially the Bucks (at least this season).

Who or what did Rondo get traded for?

As much as I bashed the UConn PG and , more aptly, the UConn coach, I'd have taken him over RR.

I can understand why some teams passed on him. There is no reason for a College or pro basketball pg to have 14% body fat.

 

I actually laughed some during draft. Greg Anthony took it as a personal vendetta that all these teams passed up on a guy in his top 10.

 

I think the Celtics will be just fine with the combo of Telfair/Rondo at point. Williams is not the speedster the Celtics were looking for.

Rondo might not be there long... According to Andy Katz, he could be part of a package that the Celtics are preparing to get Iverson.

Thats a huge rumor. I also heard though Sebastian Telfair is the pg they will package.

 

I don't see Boston as a bad fit for Rondo. Paul Pierce,Ricky Davis, and the wing player who slipped my mind who is only going in his 3rd season. Great wing players is a huge plus for Rondo.

What happened to Rondo being in the Lottery like a lot of people said? :sssh:

 

1. Rondo could have been a lottery if more teams though pg were a need. He was the first pg taken. People though the forward and center positions held more value in this draft.

 

2. I'm actually kind of dumb founded by all this commentators comments. Rondo if he isn't better than Marcus Wiliams is not to far off. The only area in which I would say any Pg in this draft is better than Rondo is shooting. Penetrating,dishing,quickness, and defense all go to Rondo in my mind. Need we not forget some great Pg's came into this league with below average shots including jason kidd and gary payton. Not saying Rondo will be that good.

 

3. Those commentators looked for ever excuse why Marcus Williams should of been taken first. My problems with Marcus Williams.

 

1. He seems to be all left hand

 

2. 14% body fat

 

3. No explosive baseline to baseline speed

 

4. Average Defense

Listen I agree Telfair is much better, but there are some similarities there.

Celtics got rid of Raef Lafrentz contract. Recived Theo Ratliff instead who is a better player and has one less year left. A rising star in Telfair and a pick in next years draft.

 

Then they traded just cash to get a point guard they wanted.

 

Sounds like Boston did a heck of a job. Cleared cap and stock piled for a Iverson deal.

Good point but "hack a Rondo" doesn't rhime. :p

I think Rondo will turn out to be well worth his #21 draft position. I could be wrong, but as of now, that's my opinion. I think he will ultimately be the best PG in this draft and he'll be a very productive starting point guard for some NBA team for much of his career. Barring injuries, of course. I like Rondo's skill set.

 

I don't expect him to ever be a great shooter, but I think he will improve his shooting with time. If he could just get to the point where teams had to respect him shooting an open 18-footer it would be a tremendous boost to his game. I think free-throw shooting would be the first thing he should work hard to improve. With his quickness and athleticism, he has the potential to be the type of player that draws a lot of fouls going to the basket, which means he could shoot a lot of free throws.

 

The strengths of his game are well suited for the up-tempo style that the NBA seems to be going toward. To be honest, I'm a little surprised Phoenix didn't keep him. He could have been a nice addition with their style of play. Learning from Steve Nash would have helped him tremendously, and he could have given Nash some rest as the backup PG. Or, by allowing Nash to move to SG at times, just to catch a breather. Obviously, moving Nash to the 2 spot isn't something you'd do for an extended time, but it could allow him a little rest while keeping him on the court, and the combo of he and Rondo in the backcourt could potentially be a nightmare matchup for some teams.

 

Just a thought.

 

All in all...I like Rondo's prospects at the next level. Time will tell.

It will be interesting to see the development of Deron and Marcus Williams over the next 5 years as opposed to 'Bassy and Rajon (on the same team or not). I thought the Celtics did a nice job adding Ratliff and freeing up space, however, if they don't pull off the AI deal, they are stuck with two inexperienced PG's that seem to share the same limitations. It will be interesting to keep an eye on.

 

Again, as a 23 year Sixer fan, I adamantly don't want either of them (Rondo or Bassy) on "my" team.
