First Playoff Rankings released

The committee is probably making coaches all across the country extremely upset. It has been the precedent set by basically every coach that you shouldn't schedule tough OOC opponents. That is the consensus of basically every coach across the country until this committee came along and decided that they were going to rank teams 99% because of their OOC schedule (unless you are in the SEC), and 1% based on how they have actually played. As a die-hard OSU fan it doesn't bother me that they are 3 although I know they are the best team in the country. But if I'm Baylor or TCU, I feel slighted that the committee would put Notre Dame and Bama. I'm sorry but that is an absolute joke. Call me old fashioned, but winning football games should mean something. If you don't want to put them in the top 4 fine, but there is no way 2 one loss teams should be ahead of them.

Don't get caught up in the politics to much Buckeye brothers, doesn't matter which of the 4 number one seeds anyone gets.

I like how the committe is doing it compared to how the AP did it for years. It's merit based . You can't play nobody and get ranked. You need to play well consistently.

So when Bama beats LSU this weekend and they jump to #1 that is correct?

If Clemson loses to FSU, yes they will.

If Clemson wins, Bama is 2.

Everyone knows what this Committee's criteria is, and they are following it.

They sent a message last year , why would they change this year ?

Committee has done a fine job.

Because Ohio State isn't #1...

What exactly have they done this year?

Barely defeating NIU and IU.

THey havent been impressive this year yet.

I mean thats fine and generally I agree with your premise, but this is the second year of the playoff and they are drastically altering everything that we are supposed to know about college football. You can't just come in here with these ideas about what you feel is important, but not give coaches time to adjust their schedules. Most of these schedules are made years ahead of time, and back when they made these current schedules coaches were relying on the traditional way of thought, don't lose a non conference game because if you do you have a very slim shot at winning a championship. Now the committee has obviously veered from that thought process, but the schools don't have the ability at the moment to adopt a new thought process because their schedules are made so far in advance. For instance, obviously the committee placed a high value on Clemson's win over ND, but ND has a deal with the ACC to play a certain amount of games against ACC schools so while that looks out of conference, it really isn't. Just doesn't make sense to me why the committee could possibly leave Baylor and/ or TCU out.

Don't kid yourself, he is way more butt hurt that 2 SEC teams are in the top 4.

And they said that when the committe was formed. They layed the criteria out.

The playoff itself drastically changed the college football landscape , so coaches shouldn't be shocked.

The ND was 100% a non conference game. Just like ND was for Big 10 schools when ND played mostly big 10 teams.

I don't want to ruin your holidays but you know only 1 will make it right?

Florida got hosed. Hammered the team that Bama lost to, only loss at LSU by a TD. Typical. Bama only team in country that could beat nobody, lose to a mediocre team yet get a slot. Oh well, great thing about this format is there is virtually no shot 2 teams from any conference get in.

People complaining do realize there will be like six more rankings, right? And there were big changes the very last week last season. Fussing and fighting about tonight's poll is nonsense, but also the exact reason a ranking is released - people watch, TV makes money.
