Clock stops on first down. Mayfield waits till ref starts clock, then spikes ball. EVEN IF the ref starts clock before mayfield is set, they can still snap ball, spike it, take 5 yard penalty, and are still WELL within the kickers range. I watched it on tape also, and STILL say it was a well called game, missed a few calls benefiting BOTH teams, hAppens EVERY game, it's easy to sit in your lazy boy and not pick the refs, your not out there in the heat of the battle. If any of the officiating crew are reading this, good job guys, your in a NO WIN profession.

I can rap this one up. I watched the game again on Utube and originally I thought the officiating was bad and after watching again I conclude-- the officiating was VERY bad.

 

I know there are good calls and bad calls in every game but the bad calls Caldwell got were in very critical parts of the game where they could have blown open the game or iced the game.

for after game comments by a seasoned football official and he was even astounded as well by the calls the refs made. Also he's not the type to complain about officiating as he was one himself.

 

But my final conclusion is the officials were NOT totally responsibly for the Caldwell loss.

 

It was a combination of very good play calling down the stretch by the Mayfield coach and players and VERY poor clock management by the Caldwell coaches on their last drive. Last but not least all the free calls Mayfield got to help them down field and the refs not starting the clock after their final big play as they waited for the Mayfield team to get set to spike the ball. The time should have started and the time would have expired before they got the play off to spike the ball.

 

Good luck to both teams in the play-offs as I think they both can make deep runs if the stay healthy.

Which calls do you have a problem with exactly? Is it the two blatant blocks in the back that weren't called on the punt return that gifted you a touchdown (2:16:50 of the linked video you posted)? Are you actually suggesting that at 2:31:58 of the video you linked, the receiver wasn't covered up? I'm sorry, but asking people to listen to the hometown radio guy say he didn't like the officiating fails to prove anything. Point to three (3) bad calls against CC and I will show you five (5) that went against MF. I'm sick of people suggesting MF was handed this game. They most certainly were not. MF fought hard for this win against a great team and the victory was EARNED. In the game of fb, you are going to have some things that don't go your way. MF teaches their kids you can't control such things, so focus on that which you can control. When things are stacked against you (as they were for MF on Fri. night), you dig deeper, work harder, and give that much more. I guess you prefer the whine, claim you were cheated, feel sorry for yourself approach. Perhaps our differing attitudes toward adversity is why the scoreboard ended up the way it did.

Caldwell had the opportunity to close out this game, but just couldn't do it. Give Mayfield credit for gutting it out and finishing. Looking forward to watching Mayfield in the 2A playoffs against some new blood.

In your own video is the proof, go to 3:31:56, this is where the Mayfield runner is tackled at the Caldwell County 10. Its a first down and the clock is stopped at 2.8 seconds to allow the chains to get down there and set up. The chains get set the ref singles to start the clock and Mayfield spikes it. It was easy for the Cards to be ready to spike it because it takes time to get the chains down the field and properly set. Of course the Caldwell County clock operator let the clock run to zero and the refs have to yet again ask him to put time on the clock which was 2.8 seconds. Then go to 3:32:45 where the Caldwell County radio crew states that they realize that there should still be time on the clock but not 2 seconds. There it is, the home team radio crew says that and I repeat they say what we all already know, there is time left and it matters not if it is 2 seconds or 0.01 because the spike stops the clock and Mayfield gets to kick the game winner. Thanks for posting it to show the truth. I understand how you feel, no one wants to lose and in a lot of ways nobody did. I am with the Tigers from here in

I do not think that you consulted the coach on this one, he was very concerned about having a crew from Mayfield on this game. I thought you were not allowed to call games for you home school per KHSAA rules? I thought this was not going to happen any since the hiring of a new assignor. In the past it was common for a crew from Mayfield to get all of their home and away games that were competitive. Guess some things do do change as these guys should never be put in a position to be called out as not being fair.

 

Coach Barnes knew 2 weeks before the game which crew had the game, he knew they were one of the best and had he so desired, say by fear of their hometown, he could have complained to the assigning secretary and had the crew removed from the game, period.

Probably not, but no honest person can bel it takes 2.8 seconds to spike the ball, maybe the clock should have been changed to less than 2, but it's irrelevant, they only needed .1 second.

There are always bad calls. Caldwell has no gripe it sounds like. Calls were bad apparently for both teams.

You want to complain about losing by a last second field goal then complain about you defense for giving up 80 yards in less than 30 seconds.

I think if us fans and the coaching staff hadn't spoke up they were gonna give caldwell a 5th down on that one series, :ohbrother:

They did a study at the college level and concluded that for the ball to be blown in, snapped, killed, and for the referee to stop the clock takes more than 3 seconds. It's a rule.
