Ok, well the vast majority feel that way from what I have read on here. It wasn't called well. And CLUELESS TO THE RULES doesn't have anything to do with it, it was a problem with the APPLICATION of the rules by the refs. So there is no RULE against pass interference or was it how the play was JUDGED to apply to the standard of pass interference? The defense rests.

Yes, CLUELESS TO THE RULES, in most of this crying, has PLENTY to do with it, and yes, how a play was JUDGED by the refs to meet the standard of ANY PENALTY is ALL that matters. The prosecution rests.

#1 It looks like the referee was getting jawed pretty good. Whether it was enough to warrant a penalty, I have no idea.

#2 From what I saw, this was a bad call. There's no on-field audio to know if something was said, but I see nothing that looks like excessive celebration to me.

#3 This one is close, but I do believe it was the correct call. Look at the receiver's position in relation to the linemen (especially the right side). If your saying that receiver is not on the line of scrimmage, then you have at least two linemen lined up in the backfield as they are further from the ball than the receiver in question. This play is a great example of why you teach receivers to check with the line judge and verify they are lined up correctly. It's also an example of why these games are so valuable heading into the playoffs. Better to make this mistake now and get it corrected, than have it bite you in Bowling Green.

#4 No way this is a penalty. Bright is hurdling two defenders to get into the end zone. This was not part of a celebration or an attempt to taunt anyone. This was just a good football play.

 

We will just have to agree to disagree about those pass interference calls, which goes to show how hard the referee's job is. Even with video and slow-motion, we still can't agree conclusively on the correct answer.

 

So now what? Do you want me to give you time-stamps and walk you through several plays where questionable officiating went against MF, or can we just give credit to both teams for playing a great game and put all of this bad referee business to rest?

Tiger, I have no idea on most of your questions

I have some questions that maybe you guys can help me with. Especially the ones with knowledge of rules. I have rewatched the game on youtube and have a few questions.

#1 around the 1:21 mark of the video, Caldwell #86 was called for an unsportsmanlike penalty. He was complaining to the ref ( H ) about a blatant facemask right in front of him by Mayfield # 42. I do not know if he said something to the ref out of line, but it had to be that, correct?

#2 around the 2:17 mark of the video, Caldwell #25 scores a TD and then is penalized for either taunting/ unsportsmanlike. Could it be he too said something out of the way, because watching the video his actions were minor compared to the first TD he scored?

#3 around the 2:32 mark, the cover up call on Caldwell #25. It is my understanding of this rule that in order for this to be called the player has to be lined up ON the line of scrimmage. Is that not correct?

#4 around the 2:58 mark, Bright dove into the end zone. Is that illegal? I heard several complain it is. Is that correct?

 

Several calls were botched by the referees in this game. The PA announcer for Caldwell was also out of line, IMO, to announce "Arnett back to pass". I felt that was uncalled for. I don't remember " Burns back to pass". I though the refs also made some good calls (maybe only after their attention was brought to it, AKA Caldwell 4th down when the sticks showed 3rd down), both crucial pass interference calls (one went against Mayfield and one against Caldwell, both on crucial plays late in the game). I have heard some complaining about the clock at the end of the game. The refs had it right according to the video. On the next to last play (the spike), there was 3.8 on the clock enough time to make that happen, although some assistance was given by the ref crew. I have no issue with who won the game. Mayfield played one heck of a game, as did Caldwell. The Tigers just didn't finish.

About 15 to 20 calls (or lack thereof) were made that are questionable in this game and one can only hope neither team will face that going forward, or ANY team for that matter.

 

On No. 1, the F word was used. That'll get you a flag every time.

Of course, the face mask penalty should have been called also.

I was going to write out a list of everything the officials did wrong Friday night, but my hands started to cramp. :lol2:

 

Also, I agree that PA guys shouldn't do play by play.

This was a great high school football game, final score Mayfield 25 Caldwell 24, game over, final result. We can all look forward to the playoffs and to the the rematch in Mayfield next year with the same three teams.

Both teams have great kickers! That's important in the playoffs!

 

For Mayfield, Bright is cat-quick and elusive, but I really like the #1 back/receiver. He played awfully well. But pound for pound/play for play did Kennemore #19 ever come off the field? The kid was everywhere! Through it all Arnette kept them together and got it done!

 

For Caldwell, Cain is a star and Riley is a super player as well that got better as the game wore on. But Shane Burns was the star for me, he can really throw it and with more velocity than his size would suggest. Hey you guys fought back too and kicked a pressure kick to take the lead - That shouldn't be overlooked!

 

I'm picking both teams to make BG! Hopefully my Purples will join you and it'll be West-Fest in BG!

Funny thing is he is blocking in the back with his arms around him either our leading tackler or the 2nd leading tackler on the team. Makes me wonder if that play would have been a TD if he wasn't being entertained by the Caldwell player.
