Here is the thing about the pass interference.

 

Either it was behind the line of scrimmage, in which case pass interference doesn't apply. There is no pass interference behind the line of scrimmage.

 

Or, if the ball was thrown past the neutral zone, then Mayfield had linemen illegally downfield on the play.

 

The line of scrimmage is everything.

 

I'm pretty sure it was intended to be a screen pass, which leads me to believe the ball was thrown behind the line of scrimmage. Which is also why the linemen were already downfield.

 

Either way, that call was missed and Mayfield got 15 free yards.

 

Not saying that cost anybody the game. In hindsight, if Caldwell had managed the clock better the last 6 minutes, it still probably wins the game. Hopefully a good learning experience if that situation comes up again in the playoffs.

Also, the line of scrimmage was the Mayfield 31. The flag landed at the Mayfield 30 — behind the line of scrimmage.

Guys from what I hear this crew is one of the best and you are not going to get any better. Refs are a dieing bread as no one wants to put in the time and effort to get blasted on bluegrasspreps.com every week?

Looks like you are on your own on this one. It isn't just Caldwell fans, there are fans from both sides that see it the same way. It didn't just take place in the last minute, it was the whole game. I have watched the tape, and most of the calls were left out, even live. So many Phantom calls that went against both teams are absolutely reverent. KHSAA should look into this crew. They surely are not capable of calling big games.

I will do my best to explain. Somebody correct me if I mis-remember something.

 

Caldwell kicks out of bounds on first kick

Second kick squibs all the way inside the 5 where it is then returned around the 15-20 yd line

Pass over the middle for around 20 yds

Screen pass is incomplete, but receiver was hit early so pass interference called (yes, it was a good call) 15 yd penalty enforced

Pass over the middle is caught around the Caldwell 40 maybe and long run made after the catch all the way to the 8 yd line

2 sec on the clock, the ball is set and snapped and spiked immediately

Field goal is kicked as time expires

 

That's the best of my memory of how it went down. Hope that helps!

Not crying sour grapes. Get over yourself. I give both teams all the credit for the effort and game play during this competition. Congrats to Mayfield for pulling it out. But, if you payed attention to this game, the third team on the field played way too big a role. PERIOD.

I am one of the original members of BGP and for the senior members of this site I think most would agree that I have a reputation of telling it like it is. That said, the last time I complained of refs was 2 years ago when MF lost to Caldwell until last night. Prior to that I can not recall having done so and would challenge anyone to review my post to find otherwise. Last night I left with a W but felt that the refs had made it really difficult stating that it was the most lopsided calling of a game I could ever recall. I got the chance to rewatch the game this afternoon and I was wrong sort of. There were calls against Caldwell as well, in particual the Cain TD catch. The call was wrong, Caldwell's 79 moved early and it is clear as day but the refs called it as ineligible receiver down field. I thought on the first td, a int by Cain that turned into a pic 6, that Cain pushed off but on review it is inconclusive. in the 4th when Caldwell had a 4th down that saved the drive with a int and later led to a FG with 47 seconds left in the game was not a interference at all. Finally, in the 49 second drive the clock ran down to 0 when it should have had 2 seconds left, the refs eventually put 2 seconds back on and Mf won on a FG and in this case the ref was correct

That is pretty offensive. Saying the only two games where you have complained about the calls were both against Caldwell at home. WOW.

What one guy on here ? I've said all along it wasn't a perfectly called game by refs but not the debacle some are saying. Next year come to War Memorial buy your ticket and we will throw in a free crying towel.
