They did a study at the college level and concluded that for the ball to be blown in, snapped, killed, and for the referee to stop the clock takes more than 3 seconds. It's a rule.

 

At the college level, rofl, whats your point? Totally different levels of play. And if I remember right, Mayfield still has a timeout at this point in the game.

All the hooey about this game boils down to this. Caldwell was up by 2 (with a gift from the refs IMO, but anyway they were up. Kudos to the long field goal they kicked) with roughly 38 seconds left. Mayfield drives down the field and despite the inept clock operator, kicks a field goal to win the game. No other argument to be had. Everyone agrees that the Refs looked like the 3 stooges out there. That officiating was embarrassing.

No, MF did not have a timeout.

And I'm not blaming MF, they did nothing wrong. Played a great game down to the end. I'm not taking anything away from their effort.

 

If a college team cannot be expected to kill it in 3 seconds a HS team definitely can't do it 2.7.

The bottom line is, Caldwell needs to learn how to close out games in the fourth quarter against really good teams.

 

Led Christian County with 7 to go and lost.

 

Led Mayfield by 11 with 7 to go and lost.

 

Led Murray by 5 with 10 to go and lost by 19 in the playoffs last year. Yes, I understand Sindelar got hurt by they had a 2 TD lead in the second half with him out.

 

Caldwell led Newport Catholic with two minutes to go and gave up the winning score.

 

Lots of talent in Princeton. Good coaching. But they need to start closing out the high-profile games -- especially the ones at home.

I have to agree with Pick. The two worst officiated games I have seen in years were the 2013 Caldwell and the 2015 Caldwell home games. I have had that discussion with several people I know. Must be the water down there.

I guess Mf qb can spike the ball faster than ANY college qb.

Rules Changes: More on the New Rules

 

I provided the time on the video that someone posted a link to on here, go watch it yourself and its clear MF did it within the allotted time. But it might not have worked that way had the clock operator not been trying to bleed time off the clock resulting in the refs having to go back and add time on not just this play but during the final .37 second drive. The big time draw by the clock operator was after the CC pass int on the final drive where he ran it from 20 something seconds to 8.

No, EVERYONE does not agree that the refs looked like the 3 stooges. I thought they called a good game, and after watching the tape, even more so. The ones that looked like the 3 stooges are fans, on both sides, who are CLUELESS to the rules.

Ok, well the vast majority feel that way from what I have read on here. It wasn't called well. And CLUELESS TO THE RULES doesn't have anything to do with it, it was a problem with the APPLICATION of the rules by the refs. So there is no RULE against pass interference or was it how the play was JUDGED to apply to the standard of pass interference? The defense rests.

It will be interesting to see how far these 2 teams can go. CC certainly was better than I thought and it was notably on the defensive side. CC of past has looked like the Dolphins in the Marino years scoring like crazy and no D. The young QB is already a great one and the young RB from Paducah is too.

I have some questions that maybe you guys can help me with. Especially the ones with knowledge of rules. I have rewatched the game on youtube and have a few questions.

#1 around the 1:21 mark of the video, Caldwell #86 was called for an unsportsmanlike penalty. He was complaining to the ref ( H ) about a blatant facemask right in front of him by Mayfield # 42. I do not know if he said something to the ref out of line, but it had to be that, correct?

#2 around the 2:17 mark of the video, Caldwell #25 scores a TD and then is penalized for either taunting/ unsportsmanlike. Could it be he too said something out of the way, because watching the video his actions were minor compared to the first TD he scored?

#3 around the 2:32 mark, the cover up call on Caldwell #25. It is my understanding of this rule that in order for this to be called the player has to be lined up ON the line of scrimmage. Is that not correct?

#4 around the 2:58 mark, Bright dove into the end zone. Is that illegal? I heard several complain it is. Is that correct?

 

Several calls were botched by the referees in this game. The PA announcer for Caldwell was also out of line, IMO, to announce "Arnett back to pass". I felt that was uncalled for. I don't remember " Burns back to pass". I though the refs also made some good calls (maybe only after their attention was brought to it, AKA Caldwell 4th down when the sticks showed 3rd down), both crucial pass interference calls (one went against Mayfield and one against Caldwell, both on crucial plays late in the game). I have heard some complaining about the clock at the end of the game. The refs had it right according to the video. On the next to last play (the spike), there was 3.8 on the clock enough time to make that happen, although some assistance was given by the ref crew. I have no issue with who won the game. Mayfield played one heck of a game, as did Caldwell. The Tigers just didn't finish.

About 15 to 20 calls (or lack thereof) were made that are questionable in this game and one can only hope neither team will face that going forward, or ANY team for that matter.
