BG and Russellville are not Central KY unless you are going by WBKO TV out of BG which tag lines as South Central Ky TV.

 

BG and Russellville gets their Officials from the Sky Association. Which is south central ky officials assoc. but traditionally and geographically they are in the West.

 

Owensboro is west and pulls their officials from WK officials association.

 

Etown would be closer to central Ky or Louisville area.

 

Lexington and Frankfort are central ky or Lexington area. I really don't see any Nky votes except for maybe stretching Ashland from Eastern to NKY.

 

Maysville/Mason County is the only one I would legitimately argue as NKY. It is right on that boundary line of EKY and NKY.

As to the rankings themselves, the AP always seems to have some rankings that are almost embarrassing. To have Ryle above Cooper after Cooper just took Ryle to the woodshed tells me you aren't even paying attention.

 

It is just disrespect to the program over at Cooper. Cooper has played a harder schedule, beat Ryle,, and Ryle is still the better team? I don't get that one at all.

Nineteen voters with a good handle on the relative strength of teams from their area. They do not have the time to devote to ranking 60 teams across the state. They probably slot the teams they know then fill in the blanks based on the easiest method = W/L record.

Even using your assumption that anything west of the 87th is West KY. Owensboro and it's entire school population is drawn west of this. You go on to say that most of the county (Daviess) is East of the 87th? WHAT? You need to recheck your map. Almost all is in the WEST.

More reason why they shouldn't rank the entire state period. GC has a better record than CCH so does that mean Grant Co should be ranked higher?

When I lived in BG I always remember it being referred to as South Central Kentucky but at the same time it has always been considered Western Kentucky as well. Having lived in BG, Lexington, Danville and a brief stint in EKY I can say that BG is definitely a Western Kentucky type of town.

You can draw your lines however you want. No one is going to agree with Lexington and that area being Northern Ky. And trying to call Ashland N. Ky.? Those are fightin' words! I hope none of the Ram fans see your geography. This might turn into a 10 page thread.

We get put in different categories by different people. People from the "Far East" think we are Northern Kentucky, and we are more northern then just about everyone. People from the west and NKY think we are part of Eastern Kentucky. We consider ourselves "North-Eastern Kentucky", that is what the area is called in the local media. That description is probably the most correct. We are not in true east, we are not the area known as "Northern Kentucky", we are in-between, somewhere.

 

The people I feel sorry for, Mason County Fleming County, Bracken County and Roberson County. They truly have no "area" to call their own.

 

The area names are pretty subjective, but I can state that everyone, outside of WKY people, think WKY is from Bowling Green west.

I am going to give you the same crazy answer I keep hearing from others. Owensboro identifies better with central Kentucky than it does western Ky.

Wow Not one of those are NKY I'll give you a hint, if it takes you an hour+ to drive to any of those you listed as NKY from Ft. Mitchell, then they aren't NKY.

 

If your driving time is the measurement we get to go by, anything more than an hours drive from Paducah isn't in western Kentucky either. Which moves Madisonville, Henderson, Hopkinsville, Elkton, Owensboro, Bowling Green, and several others to the eastern part of the state?

I know it is a great event but the Northeastern Kentucky East-West All Star game cracks me up every time I see it mentioned.
