Most have figured the 3A champ would come from the triumvirate of Boyle, Belfry, or Central.

 

What chances do those outside that group have at winning it all? Would it be a surprise? How many teams can win it? Who are they?

On paper right now, probably not. However you will most likely have Central and Boyle battling it out in the earlier round. And then depending on how healthy both them and their foe are in the semi-finals there would be a possibility of a different outcome.

The way I see it currently, Boyle and Central sit on top of the heap, with 3-8 being a toss-up on any given night. There will be some things come clearer after Fridays matchups of Boyle/Lex and Etown/Adair.

Only Catholic has a real shot, from outside those 3. There is a pretty wide separation, after that... Though 3A is still really good from 1-20, IMO.

Yes I believe there is a decent chance for someone outside the big three to win the state.

 

Caldwell is a very dangerous team!

 

1) They are under rated and if they win their distric they will play at home until they loose or they make it to the state championship.

 

2) They have played about as tough of a schedule you could play for a 3A team.

 

3) They are HUNGRY. They exited the state tournament prematurely the last two years. I believe the coaches will have them ready this year.

 

4) Their defense is really good and getting better as the year goes on.

 

5) They have a big fan base following and that in itself is a big plus.

 

They will go far if not win the state 3A tournament.

I could certainly envision a scenario where the Region 1 champ(Caldwell, E-Town, PT) defeats a battered Region 2 champ(Boyle, LexCath, Central) in the semis. Then perhaps the champion from the west meets a mistake prone Belfry in the finals and takes home the hardware.

 

If I were going to put money down on someone outside the top 3, it would probably be Caldwell Co. LexCath has a chance to change my mind on Friday, though.

 

If you want a sleeper or two from outside the Top 10, Lawrence Co. and Russell could make some postseason noise if Belfry doesn't get their act together(of course, LC and Russell need to do the same). Lawrence has great offensive skill personnel and gave Belfry quite a scare last week. Russell's performance against Raceland in Week 10 should be very telling of how far they'll go in the playoffs.

We can see a great measure when they play Mayfield at the end of the year.

Yes. I think Caldwell County, LexCath and Elizabethtown are all strong contenders. Anything can and will happen in November.

In a word, NO!!. Boyle will win it all. The idea that Caldwell has a chance is just crazy. They had a tough time with 3-5 North Hardin, at home, and their schedule is suspect. By the way, I dont think we learn anything out of the E-Town, Adair game this friday, both have played a schedule that is a joke, I am sure E-town will beat an Adair team that has played teams with a combined 18-37 win/loss record this season against E-Town, who have played teams with a combined 21-33 win/loss record. We wont find anything out about these teams until they go up against the top 3.

North Hardin scored FEWER points against each of its next five opponents than what Caldwell allowed.

Four teams held Henderson to fewer points.

Three teams held Tilghman to fewer.

PT shut Trigg out (even if it was a meaningless score CC allowed).

Upsets do happen, but when 12 of the 16 teams who have played for the 3A Title since the 6 Class System in 2007 have been named Belfry or Central it is also hard to ignore history.

Lex Cath or Caldwell would be the only possible teams to make it to the finals. Caldwell would shock me if they made it to the finals. Catholic has a better chance as a true sleeper. That region will tough be tough to make it out with Boyle, Central, and Cath all fighting it out. I think if Lex Cath wins the region they make it to the finals.

Belfry has an easy draw.. it is what it is..they didn't ask for it. It doesn't change the fact that if they win the Title they earned it.

 

Most Belfry fans would much rather prefer having a tough matchup to sharpen them for the Finals. Boyle, or for that matter whoever comes out of the West, is going to be a load and probably favored. It would be advantageous to be tested and forced to play at your best to adjust to the level of play you will see in the Finals.

 

As I said, if you cna get the KHSAA to re-do the playoffs and find a way to seed it I am the very first person to sign off on it.
