The UL basketball player's dorm.

That would be a place of pubic accommodation.

I'm in Wilmore at Asbury right now. Just thought I'd put that out there.

#keepthecross

The Asbury team colors are purple and white. Maybe this is what you are proud of.

For everyone:

As I understand it, Asbury College owned the ground and the water tower at one time (the school has an interesting history). Then the school sold the water tower to the city but not the ground it sits on. The contract for the sale of the water tower stipulated that the cross must remain on the water tower.

How does this change whether or not the cross should come down?

BTW, the long-time mayor of Wilmore was a Phys Ed professor at the College for his real job. Several of the duly elected council members of the local government were also connected to the college in one fashion or another.

Oh, and, religious zealot checking in after some time away.

:D I like their colors but I was there watching them play JV basketball against Campbellsville and I was there rooting for Campbellsville.

Hotels, Restaurants, shops and such. I should say that there is nothing wrong with those places displaying such, but they can't discriminate against peeps in violation of our laws. For example, there is a bookstore around here called ...lifeway?. Idk. It's a christian bookstore and I sometimes buy presents for friends there. They have crosses all over the place ofc. But they would be wrong to refuse service in violation of the law.

If talking about refusing a room or refusing service I agree with you.

If you're saying a hotel (private business) can't display religious items or put bibles in the hotel drawers, I would disagree strongly.

no disagreement.

"The Wilmore cross, displayed on the city water tower, unabashedly creates the perception of government endorsement of Christianity."

This violates the separation of church and state as stated in our Constitution. Our framers were scientists and artists dedicated to keeping church and state from mixing since centuries of church and state mixtures had brought us nothing but disagreements, social friction and war. Plain ol' history...

Big advocate of the FFRF.

Shocker

Show me where the constitution states this?

What the constitution does state is that the Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;

Excuse me for using the popular phrase of "separation of church and state". You are correct; the phrase is not used in the Constitution. However,...

Establishment of Religion

“[F]or the men who wrote the Religion Clauses of the First Amendment the ‘establishment’ of a religion connoted sponsorship, financial support, and active involvement of the sovereign in religious activity.”41 However, the Court’s reading of the clause has never resulted in the barring of all assistance which aids, however incidentally, a religious institution. Outside this area, the decisions generally have more rigorously prohibited what may be deemed governmental promotion of religious doctrine.

It is a bit of a gray area, but our government does not exclusively allow any one religion a priority nor favoritism over others. Therefore, no one religion should have power or promotion over another, which in effect, is a separation of church and state.

You will find no greater proponent of the maxim of Separation than me.

That said, This tower is on the campus of a Seminary that is a landmark in the small community. Has it even been established who holds the deed to the property?
