Why do atheist always attack Christianity but you never hear of them going after Islam or other religions..

 

I haven't seen any other religion's symbols on public property before but to be perfectly honest it's not something I go out of my way to discover.

The thing that makes this unique imo is that Wilmore is so closely tied to Asbury College/Seminary. Hence the reason the cross is there in the first place. It would be different I think if it were on say the water tower of Danville, KY or Harrodsburg, KY. Those cities have no tie to a Christian college/seminary.

 

The tower is actually ON Asbury College property.

Not sure if Asbury would technically 'own' the water tower and lease it back the South-Elkorn Water District. The Jessamine County PSC oversees the water districts in Jessamine County. I am not sure the city of Wilmore has direct, operational involvement.

The land it sits on is Asbury. I went out the PVA and checked. There is no carve out for that tower in the plate. So the ground it sits on is part of the college. And if the college owns the dirt, they probably own the improvements on it. The water services in Jessamine are from water districts that are not affiliated with the cities. They are 'companies' to themselves.

 

I am a customer of the water district and pay a bill every month. It seems to be a quasi-government/private corporation. I found the PSC approvals to operate but not sure who actually owns he legal entity.

I'm in Wilmore at Asbury right now. Just thought I'd put that out there.

Here I am . Reading for the first time, did not read the article though. Eh. The thing is, Christians always say, "I believe, you don't, that's cool." But then you go around slapping stuff up in public places. Now, I don't know anything about this water tower, so my comment is a general comment.

 

My thought is Christians, and everyone else, enjoy religious freedom in this country like no other people ever. We all have the most freedom ever. You guys can worship totally as you please in your houses. You can go to whatever church you want. You can go as much as you want. You can make Christian schools and send your kids there and then they can go to Christian colleges. There are dozens of Christian based tv channels, and radio, and music and movies. You could more or less live a life in a Christian bubble, EXCEPT for the public places that we all share. And everyone has that freedom, paid for by the continuing respect that we all show each other.

 

Except....all that is not good enough for you. You want it in the government, and in places of public accommodation. In the places that we have to share. You want it there too, which basically says "we don't care about your religious freedom" "you must respect our religious freedom, but we want our religious symbols in the public places too" And when you don't get it, you act as if the world is coming to an end. You get upset that you cant force your religious symbols in a school where I have to send my kids. How dare we not let you cram your beliefs down my kids' throats? How dare we expect you to respect our religious freedom in the exact same way that we respect yours?

 

And then it's the end of days, and a 'war on Christianity'. Listen, it would be a war on Islam or atheism too, if those groups went around sticking up symbols in courthouses and such. The main difference between the groups, on this point, is that only one group so readily accepts ALL the benefits of the way this country works, but makes virtually no effort to extend the same to everyone else.

 

It's not hard. Keep it out of government places, and places of public accommodation.

Actually, just pointing out that those that oppose anything religious in public have no problem at all with using our currency.
