Wilmore asked to remove cross from water tower by Freedom From Religion Foundation

Featured Replies

Where the hell did I say anything remotely close to that?

You're not comprehending what I'm saying at all. There are quite a few (not all) on this site that get in an uproar about any and everything claiming it's an attack on Christianity. Hell, there are even some who have said, or at least implied, in this thread that America was founded to be a Christian nation. Those are the folks I'm speaking of.

If the water tower said "Praise Be to Allah" many of the same folks in this thread saying it should be left alone would be the first in line with their pitchforks clamoring for it to be removed. That's my point.

I comprehend just fine. Here is your quote "On this site? Without question.". That was when I asked about the religious zealots you referred to were Christians.

Nice try at spin.

Yes, the ones I'm speaking of on this site are Christians. That's a far cry from saying that only Christians are religious zealots. Again, you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. There are religious zealots of all faiths. The only ones on BGP are Christian though.

What in the world do you think "our resident religious zealots" refers to? He's been talking about this website the whole time, but your reaction is emblematic of the entire debate.

I asked a question instead of labeling people like you are doing.

What makes them zealots? Their views or that they defend them?

To me zealot is the same as fanatic. I don't think any of the Christians on here are parading at soldiers funerals with signs.

Ok.

UKMF already clarified for you but you were too busy trying to read something between the lines rather than what he actually typed out.

I read what he posted. I was asking another question for further clarification.

That OK with you?

You haven't offended me Jesse. I too am a Christian. I just know the history of our nation is always more complex than hyperbole. :thumb:

I understand you are a Christian and that should be telling.I am going to try to stop posting so much in here. I like all you guys but I take this serious( if you cannot tell) and sometimes my emotions gets the best of me. I am not luke warm.

Neither am I.

Here I am :). Reading for the first time, did not read the article though. Eh. The thing is, Christians always say, "I believe, you don't, that's cool." But then you go around slapping stuff up in public places. Now, I don't know anything about this water tower, so my comment is a general comment.

My thought is Christians, and everyone else, enjoy religious freedom in this country like no other people ever. We all have the most freedom ever. You guys can worship totally as you please in your houses. You can go to whatever church you want. You can go as much as you want. You can make Christian schools and send your kids there and then they can go to Christian colleges. There are dozens of Christian based tv channels, and radio, and music and movies. You could more or less live a life in a Christian bubble, EXCEPT for the public places that we all share. And everyone has that freedom, paid for by the continuing respect that we all show each other.

Except....all that is not good enough for you. You want it in the government, and in places of public accommodation. In the places that we have to share. You want it there too, which basically says "we don't care about your religious freedom" "you must respect our religious freedom, but we want our religious symbols in the public places too" And when you don't get it, you act as if the world is coming to an end. You get upset that you cant force your religious symbols in a school where I have to send my kids. How dare we not let you cram your beliefs down my kids' throats? How dare we expect you to respect our religious freedom in the exact same way that we respect yours?

And then it's the end of days, and a 'war on Christianity'. Listen, it would be a war on Islam or atheism too, if those groups went around sticking up symbols in courthouses and such. The main difference between the groups, on this point, is that only one group so readily accepts ALL the benefits of the way this country works, but makes virtually no effort to extend the same to everyone else.

It's not hard. Keep it out of government places, and places of public accommodation.

What exactly is: "places of public accommodation"?

Hotels, Restaurants, shops and such. I should say that there is nothing wrong with those places displaying such, but they can't discriminate against peeps in violation of our laws. For example, there is a bookstore around here called ...lifeway?. Idk. It's a christian bookstore and I sometimes buy presents for friends there. They have crosses all over the place ofc. But they would be wrong to refuse service in violation of the law.

What is getting ridiculous Jim is that you all cherry pick what you are going to be offended by. Either all religious symbols in public offend you or they don't.

Here's an idea, why not be like me? If something an atheist puts up in public offends me I ignore it.

You're so spun around you don't have a clue about me and what I believe.

Spun around? Hardly. You point out I don't know you or what you believe but your going to judge me? That's s bit hypocritical.

In the post you quoted I was referring to myself, no one else.

The UL basketball player's dorm.
