Wilmore asked to remove cross from water tower by Freedom From Religion Foundation

Featured Replies

Actually, just pointing out that those that oppose anything religious in public have no problem at all with using our currency.

Does it say, "In The Christian God We Trust, And Everybody Else Just Needs To Get Over It?"

Anyone who knows any history Jim knows what he is talking about. The USA is the USA because Christians fled England. Get over it or move to Russia.

Or maybe we can get history changed and its another God. SMH. This is getting ridiculous.

It's getting ridiculous because you don't think anything of the imposition you put on others who don't necessarily follow things the same way as you. Classic my-way-or-the-highway tyranny of the majority stuff. Go believe what you want — just don't assume that everybody else sees it your way, and have some respect for others. Instead of "convert or die," it's just, "convert or move to Russia."

I got as much right to this country as you do, pal. I got a whole family full of soldiers who put their neck on the line in overseas wars so that I could enjoy the freedom this country has to offer. It's not you or anybody else's place to decide this country's theological bent.

So you are saying you didnt know what he was alluding to? I agree with him, if it so bad give up all your money. Denounce it. Dont use something thats so wrong. And the saying you are trying to get is "turn or burn".

So all you Christians, when you feel the urge to cry about how horrible it is that you can't paste the ten commandments in schools, and moan about "why oh why don't atheists just grin and bear it, we don't mean any harm, we just want to put a quiet symbol up".......when you feel that urge, remember this quoted post.

Sure, you just want to put up your symbols and force your beliefs on other people. And you will gladly do it quietly, just so long as no one complains. But, then, as soon as anyone complains, you will assume the role of persecuted Christian and then suggest something along the lines of the quoted post.

I am not going to move to Russia. You move. Move your intolerant self over to the middle east. You will fit in perfectly with their mindset, because you share it.

Really?

So the Old Bay Colony at Plymouth is the only story in the settling of America?

The first colony, Virginia, had nothing to do with your story. It was expansion and economy. Same with the Carolina's. Georgia was little more than a Penal Colony. Get out of David Barton's books and look around.

Well I guess everything I have read is wrong. I full understand the history of the 13 colony's. Matter of fact I just read it the other day again. But I will go ahead and apologize for all the Christians in America that have offended any and everyone that is not a Christian because its evident that Christians are terrible people( me included) and see if I can get every symbol of Christianity( The Cross) gone in the World as so nobody will be offended in the United States and we Christians wont be accused of trying to cram our "religion" down anyone's throats because they don't agree.

And Hatz I will apologize to you separately.

What is getting ridiculous Jim is that you all cherry pick what you are going to be offended by. Either all religious symbols in public offend you or they don't.

Here's an idea, why not be like me? If something an atheist puts up in public offends me I ignore it.

This is simple. If it's public property, those complaining about it will most likely prevail. If it's the property of Asbury College, nothing will, nor should, happen with the cross.

Either way, I'm fine with it staying up, but I'm also okay with it coming down. Doesn't impact me in the slightest.

I will say I can almost guarantee our resident religious zealots would be singing a decidedly different tune if the water tower had "Praise be to Allah" scrolled across it...

So the religious zealots you refer to are only Christians by what you posted?

On this site? Without question.

You haven't offended me Jesse. I too am a Christian. I just know the history of our nation is always more complex than hyperbole. :thumb:

So to be a Christian is to be a zealot?

If that's what you think, you really need to get out more.

Where the hell did I say anything remotely close to that?

You're not comprehending what I'm saying at all. There are quite a few (not all) on this site that get in an uproar about any and everything claiming it's an attack on Christianity. Hell, there are even some who have said, or at least implied, in this thread that America was founded to be a Christian nation. Those are the folks I'm speaking of.

If the water tower said "Praise Be to Allah" many of the same folks in this thread saying it should be left alone would be the first in line with their pitchforks clamoring for it to be removed. That's my point.
