September 30, 201511 yr Russia is killing ISIS for us and you guys are complaining? Better a brutal dictator like Assad running Syria than Muslim fanatics! Brutal dicators like Assad are really good at creating fanatics. My problem isn't with anyone taking out ISIS. My problem is unchecked, unilateral military action by Russia... again. Putin has always cloaked himself in Russian nationalism and uses it to shield himself from criticism of his thuggery. It's also important to note that he's not necessarily taking out ISIS; he's taking out enemies of Assad, regardless of who they are.

I'd rather have an enemy who is concerned with staying alive over one that is not!
September 30, 201511 yr What if things don't go so well for Russia? What if many life's are lost? Their economy is a disaster, the rubble is still at 65 per 1 USD when it was about 30 per 1 USD a year ago. Everyone there knows that his approval rating is faked, he is in the Kim (not Davis), Castro and Gaddafi range, and those numbers aren't real. How much will the Russian people take? Do the Russian People have any real power to remove him?
September 30, 201511 yr Do the Russian People have any real power to remove him? Not at the moment, seems like everyone who leads an opposition against Putin ends up dead somewhere.
September 30, 201511 yr Do the Russian People have any real power to remove him? The sanctions are working, slowly but they are working. We need to keep up the sanctions and make them even tougher. The elitist are not happy with him.

We'll probably drop the sanctions to get him to leave Syria which he doesn't really care about anyway, except for being a pain in the butt of the US.

October 1, 201511 yr US jets are still flying in Syria. If one of the Russian fighters engages one if them this will turn into a mess as quick as you can blink an eye.
October 1, 201511 yr They've had troops there a week at least, as well as some of their more modern stuff, like T90 tanks.

October 1, 201511 yr It's also important to note that he's not necessarily taking out ISIS; he's taking out enemies of Assad, regardless of who they are. This is true. I have said since this started Russia is not going let 'their' guy go down or go down easily. The US has been creating and training anti-Assad forces since 2012 using the enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend approach. https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2014/08/18/the-terrorists-fighting-us-now-we-just-finished-training-them/ From the Shah to Benghazi to this - the strategy usually backfires.

October 1, 201511 yr Heard a discussion this morning that they are also targeting forces friendly to the US who oppose Assad, not just ISIS. That may be true. But with lessons learned from Iraq, do you really think a policy of driving Assad from power is wise? Brutal dictators in the mid east is the lesser evil of all the available alternatives. I'm really tired of political forces in this country who do not recognize the difference between national security and foreign intervention. Ignorance on this issue has led to abominable mistakes in foreign policy that we keep repeating from generation to generation.

The big issue to me is Putin kind of kicking sand in Obama's face. I find both the action and the timing disturbing.
