Carson does 180 on Muslim as President.

Featured Replies

His Original Statement

"I could never support a candidate for president of the United States that was Muslim and had not renounced the central (tenet) of Islam: Sharia Law," he wrote. "I know that there are many peaceful Muslims who do not adhere to these beliefs. But until these tenets are fully renounced ... I cannot advocate any Muslim candidate for President."

His Last Statement

"And I said I think anybody, regardless of their religion, if they are willing to embrace the values and principles of America and our Constitution and subject their beliefs to the Constitution," he said. "I have no problem with that at all. And that's perfectly reasonable."

Not really a 180 shift, more of a clarification. His first statement he talked about if they had not renounced Sharia Law he could no support them and in his second he is clear that they would have to embrace our laws and values.

Candidates who change positions based upon public outrage don't deserve to be President. There is only one GOP candidate that says what he thinks and sticks by it regardless of public response!

The problem with what Trump says (and I'll assume that's who you are referring to) is that he can't do what he says.

For example, he said if Ford wouldn't agree to build in the US he would levy a 35% tax on them until they agreed.

Problem is that he can't do that.

Not a 180 at all.

I don't see any change.

While I agree Obama has enforced Cap and Trade by using the EPA. Where there's a will and total disregard for law, there's a way.

PC Police beat down another canidate.

Refreshing to hear an intelligent guy speaking his mind.

That is correct. He also happens to be a gigantic tool who no one really takes seriously.

You mean like Obama and gay marriage?

Or Hillary and same sex marriage...

Or couldn't handle. There's a reason why he's so wealthy and successful, I've never worked for a poor passive boss.

I like it when candidates make clarifications or *gasp* change their minds.

It is a ridiculous notion that we should want the leader of this country to be the type of person who can listen to any number of positions, hear out arguments, study the facts, and then willfully ignore all of them to stick to a position even he or she might know to be terrible.

Doesn't really have anything to do with the business of this thread, but every time I hear someone use the phrase "flip-flop" with regard to politics, I die a little inside.

For the most part I agree with this statement. However I think the issue here is people use the term "flip-flop" to describe two actions:

1. A person who says whatever they think someone wants to here. Their position changes often and depends on the audience.

2. Someone who grows and has a legitimate change of heart. Thus changing their position.

The first example is not someone I want to be POTUS. The second example is natural and a sign of intelligence and maturity IMO. I'd vote for someone like that in a heartbeat.
