If he is coming back tired then maybe they are trying to discourage him from going home on Monday's.

The coaches might realize he is a freshman coming early to get out first, but typically freshman do not get priority in any situation (just a thought there but don't actually know).

I agree with what others say, it doesn't sound like his biggest priority during football season is football. Probably doesn't go over well with the coaches, especially if he is on a scholarship.

Is he 15 minutes early for practices, film sessions, etc too?

So, his free time isn't really his free time? They intentionally made him wait to be last. That has nothing to do with their plate.

My guess is if he is on scholarship, no.

These are all good points and could be correct. If so, why would they not approach him and say, 'look man, we know what you are up to and it's not a good idea'. Shoot, maybe he thinks he is playing by the rules. Wouldn't this approach be better than playing 'I'm the king' game?

He should quit running home to mama or girlfriend every Monday. If it is such a long drive, is that a valuable way to spend his "free time"? As a parent of a college football player and a coach you should let him handle it.

Really? I didn't know that. Maybe I need to ask him about that. Certainly don't wanna burn any bridges. Maybe the coaches aren't clear.....maybe he is trying to buck the system. I'm just trying to understand it all.

Long-distance relationships …

Maybe the coaches are doing it to see if the young man will step up and have a conversation with them about it? Not so they can assert their authority but to see if he has it in him to step up. Coaches are always looking for leaders, even if it's for 2-3 years down the road. If he's just being quiet and taking it on the chin, he might not be a leader they are looking for. Someone that will step up and start dialogue in a situation where they feel wronged could be a leader down the road.

Thinking you are the judge and the jury!

If the coaching staff starts seeing him early, they open the door for others to start looking for the same privilege, and then it becomes a race, and kids start arriving 1/2 hour early since they know they can get done earlier. No one players time is more important than any other. And the coaches time is important too. Seeing this kid 15 minutes early is cutting into the coaches schedule.

And honestly, if it's such a long drive, and taking such a toll on him, making him tired, perhaps driving home every Monday isn't such a good idea.

And sorry, I do take a little offense to the comment about all football coaches being jerks. Not all coaches are jerks, not even close.

Good point!

Is there anything that a bored parent won't fuss about ??? I mean jeez? I really don't think 15-20 mins in his departure time is really destroying his life. He's sooo tired. It hurts his school work ? I mean really??? These are the same parents who fuss about playin time an stuff in high school. I don't understand why the coaches always end up being jerks??? I bet u these parents were on cloud 9 when that coach came an offered there son a spot to play college football for his education

LOL You are the one asking for opinions here. Be careful what you wish for.

You asked on the message board!!!! I'm sorry we didn't tell you what you WANTED to hear. :sssh: Sounds to me like YOU might be your kid's problem.

Had roommates in college on scholarship as well as several lifetime friends. Didn't seem like their time was ever their own. They kind of laughed about it and never made plans for their days off.
