These are all good points and could be correct. If so, why would they not approach him and say, 'look man, we know what you are up to and it's not a good idea'. Shoot, maybe he thinks he is playing by the rules. Wouldn't this approach be better than playing 'I'm the king' game?

He needs to talk to the coaches. Yes, if he doesn't like what has happened, he needs to tell the coaches why he is doing what he is doing. I don't know why it is difficult for people to communicate and ask questions. Half the conflicts in the world end almost instantly if you are honest, tell the other person what is on your mind and ask questions. Seek to understand. Then you will be able to decide what you need to do.

Again. Please read original. I did not say he wanted to be seen right away.

Whether he wanted to be seen right away or just wanted to be first in line doesn't change my opinion or what I had to say. If he has what he thinks to be a compelling reason to be one of the first players seen, he needs to discuss that with the coach first. I'm guessing there's more to the story than what you've been told or are aware of. And while I know it's not possible, I'd be curious to hear the coaches side of the story.

Keep in mind, the kid didn't have a beef. All this is about is me trying to understand. Kid wouldn't say crap if he had a mouthful!

There are always 2 sides to every story. Without question. But, someone has to be first.

The point being made could very well be to stop showing up early and expect to be seen first.

Really? If you are first in line at the deli, you don't expect to be seen first. You are a rare individual. A possible saint!

Right. And I don't mean to imply that the kid has done something wrong, or deserves

Some sort of punishment.

Apples to oranges. What life lessons are being taught at the deli?

150 kids? I'm not speaking about Ohio State. Where did you read that I said he wanted to get out early? Please don't make assumption.

A lot of teams have that many players or more. Thomas More alone has over that number.

I would say the same that he learned last night. Not to be like that tool when I grow up!

Ok,

Where my son plays and its a NAIA school there are 125 football players and they typically dress around 65 to 80 players for games depending on travel and home games etc.

They have Monday's off from practice as well but they really don't have any as you call it free time. Their week kind of looks like this as my son has told me.

Monday - Go to Class, No practice or official team activity unless they are to meet with trainer's etc. They are to review the posted film and notes and check to see if their has been a position meeting or other meeting called if not then rest for the rest of the week.

Tues. Wed. Thur. - Breakfast in the morning then classes. Report to the field for taping etc. around 2:00 and be on the field 15 min before practice starts. Practice for 2 to 3 hours, dinner then study table and other meetings.

Fri. - Travel day or team meetings depending on home or away game and classes until they leave.

Sat. Game day!! Once game is over if at home then they are free till Sunday afternoon.

Sunday Afternoon condition and/or treatment for injuries. Then free that night.

He's also told me he doesn't really have any free time with his studies and football. From the first of Aug. till the end of the season he doesn't come home and he lives only about 2 1/2 hours away from his school. He's also told me that there is a Seniority pecking order and unless you make arrangements to meet with the coach you have to wait your time.

With you situation it sounds as if he needs to have a talk with the coach and tell him what is going on.

This is a Seinfeld episode.

I still don't understand the hatred toward the coaches.

Is it the coaches responsibility to make sure the player gets home on a Monday early?

Why are the coaches considered tools?

sounds like to me, pardon this please, but sounds like to me the kid is just upset and making excuses why he wasn't home 45 minutes earlier when in the big scheme of things, who really cares?

I still haven't heard why getting out 45 minutes later is still making him late for getting back the next day and making him tired the next day? It's not the coaches fault this kid wants to go for a long drive home each week when he doesn't have to do it.

How does that make the coaches tools?

No soup for you!

No soup for you!

Hahaha, I was thinking of the marbled bread episode on the way to a party. Loved that one.
