How about the kid that was talked into killing himself by his so-called girl friend? Seems most ( In that thread ) are laying some of the blame at her feet.

The girl, as awful as she is, did not cause the guy to take the path of suicide.

 

Images from movies or video games didn't make the kid go into Sandy Hook Elementary. Words from Minister Farrakhan or tweets with #BlackLivesMatter hashtags did not cause this guy to do kill an officer.

While I tend to mostly agree with you it's not that black and white. Take the kid that committed suicide for example. He obviously had some mental issues going on and she seems to have given him the shove he needed. If he was a schizophrenic and told her voices were directing him to shoot up a mall and she told him he should go for it, would we not hold her somewhat accountable?

I think you are trying to sanitize this.

 

If someone is on a bridge ready to jump and gets talked down could it be reasoned that someones words to him caused him to step down. Maybe they gave him another way to look at the situation or presented another path to him...if not then why even try to talk someone down. Just stand and watch and hope they don't jump, if other peoples word have no impact on their actions...why even try?

I disagree. People especially can have a GREAT effect on what others do, especially for someone so vulnerable and searching for something.

 

Though the young lady didn't technically make the young man commit suicide, in this case she all but helped him place his finger on the trigger and squeeze and is absolutely complicit in his death and should be charged as so.

 

Had he found another actual caring person, he may have been convinced to seek help and been steered in the right direction.

 

If people didn't have any influence over what some do, then we wouldn't have to talk to kids about per pressure and how to overcome it, cause there wouldn't be any.

I agree with you and a few others on this.

 

Such as the girl who talked her boyfriend into taking his life. It's not a black and white issue. I agree that people are to be held accountable for their actions, but to a point.

 

If someone talked a kid with Down's syndrome to take his own life, isn't the person who talked the kid with Down's syndrome into doing it to blame? Same thing with the kid who was depressed, they were in a position that they were vulnerable, and are not responsible for the harm they caused themselves.

I hate when people bring Hitler up as much as anything, but how could you deny that the power of his words led to the death of an estimated 50 million people? He didn't personally throw the switch on the gas chambers or pull any triggers, but it seems very fair to pin that blame on him. That's not to absolve his underlings, or anything.

 

Maybe the shooter in this case in Texas was considering such awful things anyway, but perhaps some words from one of his respected icons nudged him in the direction he chose to take? I just don't see how this can be so easily dismissed.

It's either they refuse to acknowledge anything he does, or they need to switch which news source they use.

 

I will say this, it's the ones in the middle who will decide the elections, and they are the ones that see this pure hate, and seeing this will make them never want to elect a right leaning president. Talk about taking advantage of a tragedy to push an agenda, but this agenda is an agenda of hate. Heck, Obama could find a cure for cancer and many will still find a reason to slam him. But then again, a number on the right are having a fit over a mountain being renamed back to it's original name.
