September 1, 201511 yr I have a legitimate question...Why is it that whenever a black person speaks, specifically a public figure (let's consider Farrakhan that), people just assume that they speak for all black people? When bigoted white people like the Rowan County Clerk act the way she is, we don't automatically assume she speaks for all whites. Why the difference?
September 1, 201511 yr So, I think we all can agree that the issue is mental health and the lack of treatment, poor treatment, diagnosis, etc. So, does anyone have any clue where to start to get this problem more under control? Does it start with the providers? The pharmaceutical companies? General practitioners and poor diagnosis? What?
September 1, 201511 yr So, I think we all can agree that the issue is mental health New report says the suspect had a long history of mental illness. Suspect in officer attack had history of mental illness
September 1, 201511 yr And my question, and the question nationally, remains. I'm not sure if we as a country view mental illness as a big deal - enough to warrant changing how we pay for it.
September 1, 201511 yr Maybe this is an issue that deserves it's own thread, but I've been saying for many years we don't need healthcare reform. We need insurance reform. We need someone to affect change in the pocket lining from the #1 lobby in the country. I'll say it starts there. Sure there are issues in the delivery of care. I'll also say that the fringe health care (mental health care being front and center) are the ones that suffer most. I hope that maybe we have some folks on this board in that arena that could chime in. But just for starters, this has been my beef for a decade now and no one in Washington will EVER have the nuts to tackle the core of the issue. Instead this has led us down the path to a junk ACA legislation that is facade of what we really need. Here's a link that shows the giant elephant in the room and why it won't change: https://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/top.php?indexType=i The top 2 would be that elephant.

September 1, 201511 yr Please. Farrakhan isn't inspiring blacks to do anything. :lol2: :lol2: An overwhelmingly large number of blacks recognize Farrakhan for who and what he is. A hate mongering, racist idiot. Give us more credit than that. Farrakhan wants Obama to denounce him. It gives validity to his words when Obama addresses him. If Obama ignores him then it gives Farrakhan less importance. Farrakhan and Jesse Jackson both hate Obama. He's not black enough for them. #thestruggle Thats good to know.

I will try to answer this to the best of my abilities. It generally comes down to what I call "group think". For whatever reason, minorities are labled as groups and voting blocks, and courted by politicians as such. As far as whites not being labeled into a "group", I beg to differ. Whites are generally divided into political groups.
