  1. 1. Who should be number one?

From the Louisville Area Power Rankings:

1) Trinity High School - I argued with myself about number one and number two for days. I finally settled on Trinity because well, they're Trinity and over the past decade and a half have shown the ability to come back on top numerous times so until proven wrong, they will enter the preseason in this poll at the top ranked team.

2) Male High School - Number one and two could easily be flip flopped due to the immense talent Male has. Recent UofL signee Wakefield is incredible and could be a deciding factor in close games for the Bulldogs. Male was ranked #2 because in the past several years, they have also had incredible talent but have not been able to break through the state championship threshold just yet and how they have such a "raw" offensive line coming back which could muffle their very talented skill players. If anyone wants to argue with the author's placement of one and two, said author would not fight back much, the #1 and #2 teams could easily be flip flopped.

Who should be number one in the Louisville Area? Personally, I was leaning toward Male, they seem to be loaded and recently won a National 7 on 7 tournament. I know it's 7 on 7, but it was "high level" 7 on 7.

What are your thoughts, Trinity or Male? What are your reasons for the team you pick?

I agree that it is very close, and Male probably has the better talent. However, I would still say Trinity. Partially because they are my team, and partially because they have pulled out wins even when Male is thought the superior team. There is something in Trinity's system, coaching, or tradition that seems to give them an edge even when they shouldn't have one.

After a 5-5 season, with a loss to both Male and St. X, it seemed like most people didn't think the Rocks could go on a title run last year. Yet they did just that.

Trinity narrowly because of the Oline, they will be starting 5 seniors up front with size who all are returning starters or have multiple starts under their belts. The Dline will be solid as well. Although Male has plenty of skilled players, they lost too much up front from last year to get past Trinity come playoff time. Trinity will be able to neutralize Male's skill with their Oline if they choose to by grounding and pounding with senior RB Jalen Reed running behind that line at 5+ yards a pop between the tackles keeping Male's offense on the sideline.

Flip a coin...both teams will have new QB'S this year and I'm pretty sure we will change our minds a few times until the two teams face each other in week 4.

The current senior class at Trinity is 1-4 overall against Male in games that matter. We play AT Male again in the regular season and if I'm not mistaken, we would go back to Male in the playoffs if both teams advance to see each other as the #1 seed. Nothing has been easy for this senior group of Shamrocks but they somehow manage to fight through. Will find out much more over the first 4 weeks of the season.

I do like the senior lineman at Trinity A LOT with Senior Jalen Reed running behind them. In addition, Burns - Foos - Lococo - Lowe are all 3 year starters for the defense. The rest of the defense played big minutes during our state championship run. I've mentioned the much improved secondary a few times!!

Again, flip a coin in my eyes. Rocks need to contain Zachary Smith as much as Wakefield. Bulldogs are also loaded with a bunch of 2 or 3 yeat starters...especially at the skill spots.

Going to be a lot of fun watching this one unfold.

Trinity. Male needs to beet the champs to be the champs.

Uh, Male did beat Trinity last year. Albeit it in the regular season, but they did beat them.

Male beat everyone on their schedule, minus the second game against Trinity.

I would have to go with Trinity. Line play trumps most things and I believe the Rocks have an advantage there. Male's offensive line will have new players and to me the game will hinge on their ability to perform against the Trinity front 7. With Coach Cobb bringing the heat can they keep them out of the backfield long enough for Male to use all those weapons.

On the other side the Rocks Oline is big, talented and experienced. Males front 7 isn't bad and will be a fun battle to watch. Can they stop Jalen Reed enough to not cause play action problems? Trinity's receivers are pretty good in their own right.

In a close one the Rocks win out.

Male has the better player talent but Trinity has a much better coaching staff. 2 years ago better coaching couldn't overcome better players. Last year it did in the second game. I'll be perfectly content with a repeat of last year.

Can't go against T until someone knocks them out of the playoffs and then wins the championship. Male has had more hype of any team the last couple of years, but have fallen short in the playoffs. Male I has the best talent, but I can't put them at number until they can bring that tale t together to win a title.
