Cooper beat Ryle and Boone last year and had CC on the ropes until the last minute or so. So I'd say they would have finished 2nd or 3rd.

Last 3 years against 6A the only team they haven't beaten was SK. Cooper has beaten Dixie and Campbell Co, Ryle 2 out of 3, Boone all 3 years so I'm not sure what you are trying to say because 5A and 6A in this area are pretty similar. Cooper could have handled themselves just fine over the past 4 years if they were in 6A.

No. Never said that. Dixie was best just last year.

 

(Btw, Cooper has only played SK 2 times since they were 5A. The last 2 yrs. All other 6A teams they played every year )

 

I was simply making the point when NKY Bandit tried to make the statement saying there is a huge difference between 5A and 6A in NKY he couldn't be more wrong. They were both pretty evenly matched in the past. The fact that just Cooper alone has beaten every 6A school they have played except 1 since they have been 5A proves my point.

Yep, was waiting for that broken record. By the way, SK hasn't played Cooper 7 times, but don't let facts get in your way, they never do. Now, how many years again did it take for you all to finally make the playoffs? How many years have SK had football yet Cooper has twice as many Regional titles in only a handful of years they have been around? Just messin with you.....kind of.

I believe lack of respect for SK is due to it's proximity to Highlands. Whether you think it's deserved or not, Highlands overshadows all others in NKY and will continue to garner the majority of respect until proven otherwise.

SK has respect, just as every school does. The difference is when people start calling them elite or top tier. They aren't there yet.

 

SK has only made it past the 3rd round of the playoffs 1 time and this will be their 50'th year with football. 1 time in 50 years is not quite elite or top tier on anything. That is an avg of 1 regional title every half a century. Cooper as an example has 2 in the last 3 years. Cooper's first year playin was 08 so that makes it an average of a regional title just over every 3 years.

 

I like what Marskberry has done with the program and hope they continue to improve and get over that next hurdle and go deeper in the playoffs. But as far as being an elite team when the only winning record you have over the other NKY teams in 6A is against a team that has only been around a few years, well if you need to hang your hat on that to consider yourself one of the top teams, well more power to you lol.

I doubt anyone at SK is happy with a 2 and out in the playoffs or only the one state championship appearance. However, as an SK fan, I'm really glad we're not where we were 10 years ago. The program has made terrific strides.

 

HB- my point wasn't that Cooper wasn't a good team. They've had some outstanding talent as well. However, comparing your run through 5A isn't the same as the run through 6A. There are some big dogs in 5A but not like those monsters in Jefferson County.

I think over the last 4 years of we put them all in the same district (SK, Dixie, CC, Ryle, Boone, Cooper, Conner, South Oldham, Scott) you would not only have an awesome district and great games week in and week out but over the last 4 years you would probably have 3-4 different district winners.

and before SK's certain fan comes in here and quacks about 2012, I will say not only did Cooper beat every 6A team that year they played but they also scrimmaged/7 on 7 SK and beat them handedly that year. So that was to preface his rant that is coming.

 

I think all 6 teams this year would make a great district and another reason I wish KHsaa didn't make 2 districts for 6A in NKY this year.

I have attended a lot of football games over the last sixty years; i am really looking forward to September 25th! How many times can one say that going up an opponent that has an all time record against you of 1-25? That is a testimony to the way SK has improved; I am curious as to how much.

One point and then I'll go back to reading. The one argument that a lot of SK and some other 6a schools use is the super district excuse. However, that aren't losing in the playoffs to the super district schools. If that was the case, then that argument is valid. But that's not the case. I think anyone would "buy in" if you were losing to them every year.

 

Secondly, can anyone tell us what the attendance was at SK when Marksberry took over 15-16 years ago vs what it is now? I really don't know and am curious.
