That is correct. It was one of the weakest teams of the Beatty era, or rather the least cohesive.

And they lost to Central (a 3A school), Ballard, Eastern and Manual. Of those I really would only be willing to excuse Manual because it was a rivalry game.

 

One victory over a team does not respect earn. I would daresay the SK earned more respect in their loss to X in 2009, but then they proceeded to have that loss to the 5th best team in Jefferson county (Butler). SK lacks consistency which is why they are consistently not represented with the elite as you would like it to be.

 

Male may not have won a title since 2000, but they have had seasons historically that give them the benefit of the doubt and the last couple seasons have been fantastic for them. If not for T's OT victory in 2014 there is no question that Male would have gone home with the title.

 

SK needs more than 1 season of giving the eventual state champ a good game before they get the respect you think they deserve.

I think I have figured it out....SK should begin a new marketing campaign.

I find it interesting how some schools believe it's their birthright to be the almighty and everyone else must do their bidding. If other schools had the enrollment of the few on top, might be a different landscape in 6A.

Depends what you are judging your program by. If by regular season wins and losses, then Simon Kenton has done well (or a good job of scheduling) the past 7-8 years. If judged by trophies in the trophy case, then not so well. One (maybe 2?) regional championship in the history of the school does not garner much respect.

And just where are all of these easily obtained 6A state championship trophies? Are they scattered among 10 schools with equal enrollment? Most of them seem to be in the trophy cases of the schools with the highest enrollment and other advantages that have been over discussed in multiple other threads.

 

SK is doing just fine building a program from the ashes. Respect the program or not, you'll be in a fight whenever you face the Pioneers.

Nobody is discounting the enrollment advantage T and X have. In the 6 years since SK went to the state championship game, they've lost to 3 teams not named T / X in the playoffs. You also seem to ignore the enrollment advantage SK has had against a lot of the regular season opponents they've played the past 7-8 years.

SK enrollment isn't significantly different than anyone else in their district.

Similar enrollment is why they are in the same district. If you look at their Non-district games, you'll find large enrollment advantages against a lot of the teams they chose to schedule. SK has done a good job with their program. But until they lose the Holy Cross' and NewCath's and win regional championships against teams not named T / X, I think they will struggle to find the "respect" they are looking for.

Well Male and Manual's enrollment is similar to SK. I never here them using that as an excuse. And it's funny how the SK faithful use enrollment when it benefits them to justify not competing. But when they want to talk smack with HHS (a school that SK is almost twice the enrollment), the "enrollment factor" goes away!!! If we look at it your way, Sept 25 shouldn't even be a game. Congrats to SK! Hope the Birds can pull off the upset in that one!

 

SK's record???? Okay, you're right. To just look at the record, you may buy into that. However, when you peel back the onion a little and see how that record was put together, well then you see the real story. When School A (representing most 6A programs) are playing all 6and 5A team and an occasional really good 4A team and School B is only facing 6A opponents in their district because they have to and do not schedule any other schools near their size or ability, then comparing records to other 6A schools kinda loses credibility really fast.
