And just where are all of these easily obtained 6A state championship trophies? Are they scattered among 10 schools with equal enrollment? Most of them seem to be in the trophy cases of the schools with the highest enrollment and other advantages that have been over discussed in multiple other threads.

 

SK is doing just fine building a program from the ashes. Respect the program or not, you'll be in a fight whenever you face the Pioneers.

 

Building the program from the ashes??? How long do they need? Marksberry has been there 15 years as the head coach and the rebuilding has come from the population boom in the late 90's and early 2000's. Since around the year 2000, SK's enrollment has grown by about 400+ studuents. That's adding a school the size of NCC to a school that was already pretty big! That's where the uptick in competition has come. You are getting more boys in the school than ever and most of those kids that moved in are not rural kids like the past, so they are playing. Again, that's where the improvement has come. Look when it started and compare that to the population of south Kenton or Independence. It's a direct correlation.

 

So adding a school the size of NCC and having the same staff in place for 15 years over that same time should result in improvement. How are they still raising the program out of the ashes. It's been a decade and a half! When does this level off? How long do we give them before we measure them and place the the respect level on them. They seem to have leveled off to me. Are you expecting something different in the next 2-3 years? Because if not, they have leveled off and people have mentally "placed" them where they think they are going to remain...a solid program that still has a question mark on "how solid". Some of that could be answered this year with the ramp up in the schedule.

Similar enrollment is why they are in the same district. If you look at their Non-district games, you'll find large enrollment advantages against a lot of the teams they chose to schedule. SK has done a good job with their program. But until they lose the Holy Cross' and NewCath's and win regional championships against teams not named T / X, I think they will struggle to find the "respect" they are looking for.

 

Again, I will compare this to what I said last year...I think I read on here somewhere that Dixie has a winning record against SK and they dominated them twice last year. Where is Dixie's thread about respect??? Why aren't they on here constantly looking for justification and respect??? This is another reason some do not respect SK because several of their fans are always trying to market respect for the program. They have improved. They are solid. They will compete in NKY 6A. Well Male and Manual's enrollment is similar to SK. I never here them using that as an excuse. And it's funny how the SK faithful use enrollment when it benefits them to justify not competing. But when they want to talk smack with HHS (a school that SK is almost twice the enrollment), the "enrollment factor" goes away!!! If we look at it your way, Sept 25 shouldn't even be a game. Congrats to SK! Hope the Birds can pull off the upset in that one!

 

SK's record???? Okay, you're right. To just look at the record, you may buy into that. However, when you peel back the onion a little and see how that record was put together, well then you see the real story. When School A (representing most 6A programs) are playing all 6and 5A team and an occasional really good 4A team and School B is only facing 6A opponents in their district because they have to and do not schedule any other schools near their size or ability, then comparing records to other 6A schools kinda loses credibility really fast.

Let's not treat NCC like they are an also ran. They are a state power and play some great football over there. They are regularly a top 5 team in NKY and beat teams in other classes regularly.

Injuries to their best players killed that season. Could have happened to anyone. Since then SK has gone to the platoon to increase our depth.

I'm not concerned with what others think of the program. As I've said, the back of our bubble gum card says we're a top program in 6A. No matter what anyone thinks, the record is what it is.

I pulled up enrollment. Na, SK folks always do when describing how they can't compete because of the school sizes. But when you compare yourselves to HHS (that you are almost twice as big as) enrollment isn't a factor. My point, SK supporters tend to only use things when they can twist in their favor. All schools are different sizes and all classes have schools that are on the high side of the enrollment for that class and the low side. If you have been placed in a class by enrollment, that should not be a reason to use why you can't compete. Much smaller public schools compete with much larger schools all over the state! Again, my point in bringing up HHS...if that wasn't the truth, we should be expecting a blowout on Sept 25th...I'm doing with SK in a landslide!!! They are twice as big as HHS! They are a lock! See how silly it is to say you can't compete because of enrollment??

If KY changed to a mid-major conference and played all mid-major and very small D1 schools and ended the year every year like 9-2, would you consider them a top college program??? Their bubblegum card would look really good! But do you consider them a top program because you turn it over and see their record??? Bet you wouldn't...now you know where "we" are with SK. Now if KY were to get into the playoffs and do some damage or show they could compete with the SEC schools and OSU, then we may have more respect for the KY program...in this hypothetical. Right? But that's not happening.
