That Highlands is going to lose Sept 25th!

 

Well they should lose!!!! They are playing a big ole 6A school with double the enrollment. We don't have a chance. We are just trying to get better by playing a big school like SK. I just hope the Birds don't lose confidence after the beat down and they can rally to make a run at the end.

 

See how silly the enrollment comments are and why most take it in account, but not an excuse to get beat down by those schools every time you face one. Again, small schools all over the state find ways to compete with much larger schools. Is it a factor yes, but not the one and only factor to "throw in the towel" before the season even starts every year.

That's for clarifying your point that no one else can play competitive football unless they're beating your team.

 

Nowhere in that post do I say anything about HHS. This is what many others (non-hhs supporters too) are saying. Don't justify your bubble gum card with 2A victories from down 2A schools...or even up 2A schools for that matter.

I throw enrollment out the window. When one team has more kids on their roster. SK has around 80 kids on their roster while Highlands has over 100. So enrollment, class size and injuries all go out the window. When Highlands lose it is because the better team won!

Would you apply more credit to an SK win over FTH this year (after FTH lost in the championship game LY) than you would a victory over a state championship team from HC or NCC? Sounds like a yes from your posts.

Injuries to their best players killed that season. Could have happened to anyone. Since then SK has gone to the platoon to increase our depth.

a top program dosent have 2 win seasons. If your going to go back to 2008 you have to include 2011. Top teams don't have that kind of fall off.

That team would have been great defensively. The offense was terrible, mostly due to injuries and having to play a lot of young guys on that side of the ball.

 

Top teams do have off seasons. Good ones bounce back the next year, like this group did the following season, advancing to the regional finals.

I find it interesting how some schools believe it's their birthright to be the almighty and everyone else must do their bidding. If other schools had the enrollment of the few on top, might be a different landscape in 6A.

 

BTW, SK's record over the last few years is near the top in 6A and definitely top 10. In the end, we are what are records say we are. Back of the card, right fellas?

It is true that SK's record the last few years is good, but honestly until this upcoming season their out of district scheduling was pretty soft. I think the last couple years their opponents records were more losses than wins etc. so to be fair, you cN have a good record but when you play 1 and 2 and 3 win teams all in lower classes than you, well it is what it is.

Assuming you are basing that one the reputation of the opponent, correct? If so, back to the heart of the discussion. FTH has a positive reputation for success, even though they didn't get the job done last year. They might not get it done this year either. SK's long term reputation has been as an also ran, someone you want to play on senior night. My point is that this team is better than that old view from years ago and they are a solid top 10 6A team.

We've had a pretty healthy discussion about schedules. There aren't many schools you can put onto a long term schedule and know they will be good. Heck, Ryle was crushing people 10 years ago and hasn't been heard from since. I remember when CovCath was winning championships. Those trophies are dusty. Cooper and Conner were both down last year. That's not our fault.

HHS won last year. Even if they hadn't they have 100 years of earning respect.

 

SK is better than they were, no debate on that point. They may very well be top ten, if they're not they are right there with several other teams.

FTH did get the job done last year. It was the year before they lost in the title game.
