Simon Kenton Respect

Featured Replies

The Northern Kentucky Power Rankings has Highlands at number one, and Simon Kenton at number two.

In years past, it was common to read people asking "what has Simon Kenton done?". Is Simon Kenton getting more respect in NKY? What's the perception of Simon Kenton in NKY?

SK has turned itself into a "program" vs having a "good year." They have everything in place to contend annually.

Most people recognize that. Any challenges they get on here are simply because people are tired of their biggest cheerleader.

And why the "-" between "Northern" and "Kentucky?"

Because I'm an idiot mostly. I'm used to typing "North-Eastern Kentucky" and my only excuse is muscle memory.

Been there.

They are going to be a player in 6A in NKY for years to come. They have the population now. Independence is more "urban" with the population boom. They have had a consistent level of success since about Chad Lawrence was the QB which has built a platform for expectation that programs need to build from. I am not convinced that they will be better than Dixie when you look over 5 year increments. I may be wrong, but being equal to Dixie is much better than where they were in the 90s and early 2000s.

I can see that. Not being from NKY, I can attest to the fact that Simon Kenton has had the attention of people in areas of the state not called NKY for several years. In my area, I have had several people ask about them and ask what changed for them to be so successful.

But, on BGP it has seemed that many of the NKY fans didn't afford the same compliments to the program. I understand people not caring for a SK fan, as a person, but it seems that SK gets a lot of anger from NKY when it seems that the NKY fans normally cheer for their regional pretty strongly.

All because of one person. NKY fans realize the level of SK's program.

I'll agree but disagree as well. There was a lack of respect for SK before "One Person" got here.

Clyde, I think it should be "Outside of Jefferson County" instead of "Northern Kentucky". When it comes to 6A, there is no comparison of the top 6A Jefferson County teams. I think Simon Kenton will be really tough this year and can go to the State Championship game maybe, but that's it. Remember a couple years ago, SK had a good team traveled to Louisville Butler and got beat.

And this isn't intended as a knock on SK, but more of a where are you ranked at comment.

I view Simon Kenton as a perennial Top 10 team in 6A and subsequently a perennial Top 25-30 overall team in Kentucky.

They may ebb and flow around there... but by and large that is where they have settled into and that is an enviable position most programs would love to have

Do I see them winning a 6A Title?

Probably not

Would they compete for a title in 4A and 5A..some years I honestly think "yes".

SK was once a basketball school and now has slowly become a football school. SK has a great group of football players in each grade coming up. The feeder system (South Kenton) have more numbers this year than they have had in the past few years. The middle schools have good football players getting ready for highschool also. SK is only going to get better and better every year.

When SK went to the State Finals they traveled to Male and beat Male.

Speak of the devil.
