With all due respect Cole isn't chopped liver like you made him out to be.

 

He was statistically one of the top WR"s to ever come out of the Bluegrass State, a 3 time All-State selection, and fairly heavily recruited before signing with Vanderbilt. To paint the picture that most people do not know who Cole is would simply be false.

 

With all that said, for me Fant is almost impossible to take off the list. He dominated the state for three years and was without a doubt the best player on a Bowling Green team that had a legendary run.

 

I apologize to the Cole faithful. I just wanted to take up for my guy. No harm meant for the other guy. Fant deserves to be on the list.

Give me Channing Fugate at Fullback over Hatfield. No disrespect to Austin, but Fugate played FB at Tennessee and EKU and made the Baltimore Ravens practice squad this summer I believe. Until Hatfield has that kind of resume, I don't know how you can put him ahead of Fugate.

 

Fugate is tough.

 

He never played FB in HS.. he was a HB all the way.

 

Hatfield, OTOH, won 2 rings and played in 3 State Finals..he was twice the Finals MVP and the only player in a long while to rush for over 100 yards in 3 straight State Championship games.. something not even greats like Kelvin Turner or Jonathan Jckson were able to emulate.

No. This is a High School All-2000s list. You don't take off a WR who got Mr. Football for someone most of us don't even know. All that stuff you say may very well be exactly right but I don't think his efforts generated 3 straight State Championships.

A history lesson for you. Fant is a great player, John was a stud, the link is from 2007 right after John won the Gatorade POY award for Kentucky.

John Cole was an unbelievable athlete, possibly the best to come out of Somerset in its long history. It wasn't exactly his fault he didn't have a stellar college career. He was starting for Vandy at PR/KR and getting rotations at slot receiver as an undersized true freshman before tearing his meniscus near the end of his first game. He led them in receiving his redshirt freshman year but the rest of his career was plagued with injuries and a stagnant passing game. If he had gone to Stanford, who knows how far his career may have gone.

 

Personally, I have no problem with John being on the list as PR/KR as he was great at that as well. All five were great players and I have no problem with anyone who made the list. I will say that John Cole had the best straight line speed of the group (100m state title winner) but each player had their own niche. I say if you take anyone off though, it should be Burton, not Fant. Wasn't Keenan a QB in high school?

Fugate was a load in High School!

 

Was a load in college as well.

Rob Smith is definite. He was an all american when it actually meant something. He has to be on the list.

Mike Donahue(sp)-CovCath

 

He was an absolute stud at tackle. Went on to be a starter at UofL, but his career was cut short due to injury.

Joseph Casteneda-CovCath

 

He was a great shut down corner. He played at the University of Dayton and the University of Louisville.

I think the kid from Ryle who played at Navy last name was Murry.

For LexCath these 3 were worthy of an honorable mention in my opinion.
