Cole over Fant at receiver at this point I would think. Cole was legit. Many people don't know this but he was dangerously close to playing with Andrew Luck at Stanford, even had Harbaugh calling his house begging him not to commit to Vandy the day he committed, had he gone out to the west coast he may be playing professionally right now. As it stands a Vandy MBA isn't to bad! Bright kid.

I understand the vote for Jordan Whiting at LB but my favorite player from that team was Brock Messina playing the DE/OLB position. Went on to an amazing career at Georgetown along with NAIA all-american honors, conference player of the year and National Defensive player of the year finalist...if my memory doesn't fail me. My opinion, he was overlooked by so many D1 programs. Whiting got all the attention and for the most part well deserved...but Brock was a pleasure to watch on every play and one heck of a player for the Rocks. Loved watching him play with the cast on his arm. Guy was a warrior!

Much as I like seeing Trinity guys included I wouldn't have included Hatcher. He was very inconsistent. Some great games but also some very average ones as well.

These names bring back a lot of memories.

Don't misunderstand. Fant was a HECK of a player... Cole still owns a couple records though, hard to argue the stats (say what you want about level of competition but he was drawing doubles and shaded coverage his whole career just like Fant, and he was also a four year starter)

I think there is at least an argument to put Cole in with the WR group. Arguably one of the best receivers in state history not just the 2000's. Above Fant in every category receiving wise. Fant is more recent memory though, guess that helps.

One glaring miss. Robert Reynolds, linebacker at BG Purples. Gatorade player of year. 3 year starter at Ohio State, including a National Championship. Played at Titans for a few years as well. In high school, man among boys.

CovCath was in scoring range when they got to mid-field with him. I remember when they played NewCath at Newport Stadium....coming out of the halftime break, he was consistently making them from midfield in warm-ups, and with plenty of room to spare.

Cole was an absolute "gamer". Enjoyed watching him play against NewCath in the State Semi-Finals back in 05 & 06.

As far as Nacarius Fant (over John Cole) I agree with. Cole was special but consider how many blowouts BG had in their 44-0 streak. In at least 20+ games, Fant was done for the night after 1st series of 2nd half. I know I am BG bias but if Fant would have completed every game he would have shattered many records.

Mike Mitchell? Has played in the NFL since he was drafted in the 2nd round, number 47 as a DB. Drafted by the Oakland raiders , and played for the Carolina Panthers and is still playing for the Pittsburg Stealers.

 

A little more on Mike. He wasn't invited to the NFL combine, but did attend Ohio U's pro day. Pre draft Mike was 6 feet one and weighed 216 lbs. His 40 yard dash time was 4.39, his vertical leap was 37 and one half inches, his broad jump was 10 feet 3 inches. He bench pressed 225 lbs for 22 reps.

 

Like him or not, he's a pro football player and deserves the accolades that he receives.

An argument that two homers can have I suppose! Somerset had several blowouts in the four years that Cole was a starter. In Jon's statistical "best" year (2006) I counted 10. To play devils advocate during the 44 game streak BG played at least 4 more games than Somerset, probably more like 6-7, considering they made the finals giving Fant more opportunity to rack up stats.
