What are the nuances that I missed?

UofK has even played there. Lots of history took place inside the bricked fence. You feel the history as you pass through the huge iron gates. I've been to the old stadium in Ironton- this one reminds me of a smaller version.

One of my Favorites is Lou. Central.

Chuckle, read what I wrote again. I said I would hesitate to put Trinity in the top five, yet Marshall Stadium is better than Mayfield's or Highland's.

Owensboro's Rash Stadium. It combines the old(brick/concrete stands on home and visitor side. With brick/concrete wall around half the stadium.) while also incorporating the new(Field turf). Field has no track around it either so you're right on top of the field. They need to bring back the red & black shack(concession stand) near the north end zone to help with the refreshment lines.

I've been to a ton of high school stadiums and I've liked lots of them. I don't like the new metal bleacher type and I don't like the ones with tracks around the field because of the distance from the field. I like Mayfield's field because it's close to the field and from the top you have a view that's almost like you're looking down on top of the field. I also like the big game atmosphere that it has when good teams come in and the tailgating that goes with it right from the field. I do wish they had some chair back seats and the locker rooms could be better but in my opinion it's a great place to watch a game from the concrete side.

Not bad for a old guy from Central, Ohio.

Good list, but they tend to lean towards traditionally good teams and (sometimes) older stadiums with nostalgia. Take War Memorial for example. A lot of history and tradition behind the place, but I never thought it provided an ideal game day experience. Maybe for some of the tailgaters heckling out of the far endzone, but the place is a relic and not the most comfortable of spots.

 

I love the shot of Belfry's stadium. I have to make it to that place.

Agree about War Memorial. Great tradition, not one I'd think would make the list.

Simon Kenton is a fun place to be on Friday night. SK is 17 and 1 at home the last 3 seasons and a 14 game win streak at home.

I've been to over 40 stadiums as part of our team these past years. I love our own in Boyle County but that's biased however I do not know how you can leave out Admiral Stadium of Danville. Just Driving by the place feels really cool.

 

Lexington Catholics field is probably one of my favorite fields to see. It has rained everytime we had played up there though.

 

Marion County has the best Pressboxs that I've ever been in. It's like a house up there and great consessions .

 

Knox Central was a long ride but it was a neat field and Knox Central is always tough.

 

Central is one of the best though.

Henderson County. Loudest home crowd I've ever played against.

You have to put Campbell Countys new stadium in the mix.

Never actually been to a game there, but Russellville's stadium looked neat.

The hedges around the field are 1st class, too.

 

It's also the only stadium in the state where the visiting bleachers are bigger than the home side.

Much like the uni discussion, I can think of a few more that would go in there, but I can't say I'd take any of those 5 off. Outside of the others already mentioned for consideration, I only have a couple to add.

 

Murray High is as cool of an atmosphere as there is. Old stadium, much like Mayfield/Russellville (and, built by the TVA after WW2 I believe).

 

It's a newbie, but E-town's new complex is very nice.
