I don't understand your reasoning? This (or any player for that matter) can choose to attend any school they like in KY.

 

I see your point. My reasoning, which I'll admit may be faulty, is that a player can theoretically live anywhere in the state and attend the private school of the family's choice. Though I know there are exceptions and bent rules, on paper that is not the case with public schools -- if a student wishes to play ball at CCH or NewCath he certainly doesn't have to move specifically to Park Hills or Newport. If he moves to Boone County, my understanding is the only public schools he could attend would be in Boone County though his private school options would still be open. From a raw-numbers perspective, that appears to give private schools a statistical advantage in drawing players from a regional talent pool. As Mexitucky wisely points out, it doesn't necessarily pan out in terms of championships, but I don't know if that necessarily disproves the theory.

If a student lives in Boone County and wants to attend a Boone County Public High School, then the student does not get to choose which Boone County school he / she wants to attend (with some exceptions apparently happening). However if the student wants to go to Lloyd, Beechwood, Dixie, or almost any other public high school, the student is able to do it at their choice

That is that local school boards issue. They don't have to set boundaries or restrictions. They choose to.

Which lends the question, "Why did the OHSAA laugh them away?" I know that Detzel and the NewCath admin will run this all through the KHSAA and hopefully they rule on it before January.

Since Walter brought up the word "gardian", I'm wondering if I may know this gardian or not. If so, that would explain a lot. A few years back, around 2003, there was a guy in Cincy who lied to kids from Africa and their families, somehow got them to the U.S., and jacked them around from school to school, being denied left and right.

The rules are the same for ALL KY schools by KHSAA rule. In other words, a player can live anywhere in KY and go to any school in KY. However, some local school districts place additional restrictions on their own district and then some of them cry like little babies and claim it isn't fair and private schools have advantages when it comes to location when in fact it was their own doing and they made a choice not to accept some students.

 

In short, if anyone ever tells you the KHSAA rules are different for any school they are either misinformed or intentionally trying to misinform you.

For the record, I own my ignorance on this one. No public school employee, supporter, band member, or mascot fed me any information. One of the reasons I get on BGP is to have my misconceptions straightened out; many thanks to the folks who have done so on this occasion.

Brian Loring is the name I was given..

 

And FWIW, my guy seems to think this kid will eventually end up at one of the academies in VA, NC , or FL where they have more experience with kids like this. (Relatively new to the states)
