April 23, 201511 yr Hatfield and McCoys will always be the most famous and intriguing. as far as NKY, the glory days of Newport when it was the Vegas of the country before Vegas became Vegas. It was the show biz capital with the best acts in the country flocking here. Then the Beverly Hills Super club.
April 23, 201511 yr Burns' name has come up a lot in my reading of Ky history/current events-type stuff over the years. I think he was assigned to a governor as security when he was a trooper and that is when he studied for law school.

It was the show biz capital with the best acts in the country flocking here. Then the Beverly Hills Super club. The cemetery where Randall and Sara McCoy and the other McCoys are buried overlooking Pikeville is a very neat, very eerie place. Same goes for the other cemetery on the side of the hill near the college.

April 23, 201511 yr In 1981 city commissioner candidate Gary Parrott was convicted of slashing the throat of his girlfriend and killing her to protect his image in the commission race. This happened a block from where I grew up, and my brother was a co-worker at the Post Office of the brother of the murdered girl. He still managed to get about 1500 votes... go figure??? He didn't serve all of his 20 year sentence, but got out early and was again arrested for trafficking drugs. As a kid in the 70's I used to buy fireworks from him that he sold from the old closed up Sam's Ice Cream Shop in Covington on Pike St. He was also associated with the guy who blew up an entire neighborhood in Newport in 1981 when the storage of their fireworks exploded. 1981 was a big year for Mr. Parrott... 1981 - A garage at 938 John Street manufacturing illegal fireworks, exploded without warning leaving severe damage up to a six-block radius. April 23, 201511 yr In 1986 Covington 43 year old city commissioner Sandy Cohen went among the missing over a 4th of July weekend. While no one could locate him, It took a psychic touching his picture to help Covington Police discover that his dead body was under a discarded couch near the railroad tracks. This also lead to the arrest of two 22 year old men. Through this it was discovered that Commissioner Cohen was gay, and it was assumed that perhaps he had picked these guys up who were street hustlers, resulting in them robbing and killing him. April 23, 201511 yr When I was about 8 years old this roughneck, Ralph "Junior" Sholler (see link for photo) who lived two doors down from me, and is a few years older forced me into a wooded area near Goebel Park and proceeded to punch me in the face very hard for no reason. At that early age in his life he was already displaying super bad behavior as youngest of the 17 children of his mother who lived in a shoe and had so many children she didn't know what to do. His mother was known to carry a pistol while also never missing mass on Sunday. The police made daily visits to my street to handle violent issues that were caused by the numerous families, The Hamilton's, the Haney's, & The Sholler's who all had too many children to count, and kept things stirred up on a regular basis. It was a given early on that I was not to hang with any of these kids, nor did I want to, but to avoid issue with them, pretend to be neighborly with them while they chased their barefoot kids up the street past our house with belts, or while they made numerous trips up the street daily to the corner liquor store. Anyhow when "Junior" was about 18 or 19 he shot and killed a 13 year old girl in a house down the street for what was rumored to be because she wouldn't put out. (This was just one of the too many murders that happened in my neighborhood when I was a kid. The details of all the others would require numerous more chapters to my already long post). Junior served very little time for this murder, and was back on the streets bragging and laughing at the system that required only of him to attend meetings designed for sexual addiction therapy. Fast forward about 13 years, Junior robbed and raped a barmaid at closing time with disgusting details that I won't bother to post, at Rosie's Tavern on Bakewell St. in Covington. Luck would have it that the police showed up before he got a way, and he is now serving multiple life sentences for the crime. This photo of him freaks me out because I hardly recognize him now that he is older, but put a curly white wig on his head and he looks exactly like his mother. April 23, 201511 yr The Brenda Sue Schaeffer murder in Louisville by Mel Ignatow. Trail was moved to NKY and he was found not guilty in his first trial because the jury wanted to wrap it up and get home for the holidays (was right before Christmas). Photos later discovered at his former residence proved that he actually did kill her and a former girlfriend was involved. He went to trial again on perjury and other charges and eventually spent several years in prison, though not for the murder. Very intriguing but very sad story.
