Bryan Price With Five-Minute, 34-Second Expletive-Filled Tirade

Like I said, print is a dying medium. If they want to act like home town reporters they'll just speed up the process. From what I've seen everyone is trying to be the one to break a story. Give me a couple of examples from this decade of hometown reporters holding on to a story to benefit the team...I'd love to hear them.

Everytime a New England Patriot is listed on the injury report not one single Boston reporter tells what that injury is, when it happened or how serious the injury is.

Reporters always know more than what they say. If they told everything they knew then they wouldn't have many sources at all. Some stuff you tell. Other stuff you keep to yourself. That's not new. You also have to have solid proof if you're going to put it in print and sometimes the truth can be too difficult to prove.

It's one thing to say Billy Hamilton is hurt and not available. Whole other ballgame to say Billy Hamilton's finger is hurt and he can't hit against right handed pitchers. That's too much info.

All he has to do is is pull a Belichik. One, two or three word answers and the ever popular "next question." It works for Bill, however Bill wins.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is the same reporter that Phillips went off on last year.

Correct, BP is a cry baby.

Sadly, he could have accomplished the same thing by saying nothing, and continuing that practice.

I just listened to the audio, it's a good 5 minute tyraid and to tell you the truth Bryan Price sounds like an idiot. He makes it sound like it's states secret to let anyone know if a player is there or not. He is a real butt munch.

I think the fans have a right to know why you pinch hit Pena with the game on the line vs your division rival instead of an guy who was an All-Star last year.

The fans have no right to know anything. It is not 'our' team. The team is privately held. Price only owes an explaination to the owners. Our voice, by not getting this type of infortmation, is not buying tickets. So the less the coach communicates with us about his decision making process only helps temper our attitude and dollars spent. If Price does this poorly and it cost the owners money, the owners need to decide if they want him running the show. If in fact he is the one running the show.

OK, by all means keep pinch hitting Pena instead of an All Star with no explanation at the time. You won't have many fans real fast.

Exactly! Price needs to do a good job communicating or out he goes.

File this under the category of "be careful what you wish for" ....

He's making Dusty look like Connie Mack.

That's only because the Patriots don't give out that information. If Price, or someone else associated with the team, gave out the information on Hamilton and Mesoraco and it got out in the media that's on them, not the reporters. There are lots of reporters in Boston that would be all over those stories--the Patriots and Belichick are smart enough to keep that in house. Reporters aren't there to be Price's buddy. If he doesn't want them to report something then don't let them know about it. If the leak is from another source then he needs to find it. Don't get on the reporters for doing their job...

And I think, bottom line, that's what he was trying to get across. There's no reason a manager should have to lay all his cards out on the table before the game. Heck, if you know that someone's nursing a sore hammy, maybe you don't hold them on or worry about them stealing late in a game. Or maybe if you know the opposition's left-handed specialist is getting a day off (because he's worked 4 days in a row) you change who you send up to pinch hit in the 7th inning.

The thing that makes it even harder, is the fact that "spilling the beans" can affect a whole series, and not just one game.
