Reds @ Brewers series (4/20- 4/23/15)

Let's see how long it takes Price to move Cozart to the 2 hole...

I bet by the end of the week he gets there. Then promptly will stop hitting.

Would be nice if Marquis could steal a win tomorrow. Then Johnny for the sweep and we forget about STL.

4 game series.

I mentioned the same thing the other day.

The Reds did a great job executing that trade. The Simon deal with the Tigers is another one that could look really good in a couple years.

Not only did the Reds get a young stud in Desclafani that's under control for many years but they also shed the Latos contract and acquired a young catcher in Chad Wallach.

Wallach is the forgotten piece of the deal and a former fifth round pick out of Cal State Fullerton. Chad is the third son of Major League All Star Tim Wallach, Tim was a 5 time All Star, won 3 gold gloves, and 2 silver sluggers while playing third base for the Montreal Expos.

Wallach has some big league pedigree. 7 Hrs, 57 RBIs, .322 Avg and a .431 OBP last year between A and A+.

Is he at AAA? Who is the Skipworth? catcher they brought up for like a minute a few days ago?

As far as teh chontract, that never realy bothered me. The Reds have always had a bad habit of getting rid of their best players simply to get rid of their contracts. Well when you get rid of your best players then you become even worse than you already were.

It always bothered me when people talk about getting rid of a great players contract because you don't improve when you get rid of the best players.

I agree, however this time the Reds did their homework and scouting and ended up with a steal in DeSclafani and another solid piece in Wallach. They upgraded the team and saved money.

Skipworth is a former 1st round pick, 6th overall by the Marlins. He is a disaster at the plate and behind the dish defensively however he's still young and was once highly regarded. The Reds took a flyer and signed him over the offseason, He'd be great in a Home Run Derby as that's all he's really good at.

Anyways he was only brought up as an emergency catcher until Barnhart was able to be recalled. Barnhart was on the 40 man roster already so the Reds had to wait so many games into the season before they could bring him up. The Reds knew all along Barnhart was who they wanted to bring up they just had to wait it out and used Skipworth until then.

As for Wallach he's only at A+ and is still a couple years away.

Gotta give credit to Walt on the Disco trade. Latos is 0-3 while he is 2-0

Leake may be one of the top 10 hitters on this team. That's sad.

I've said before, on the road in games where Leake is not the starter, I consider leading him off and subbing Cozart (when he returns to the back of his baseball card) or Pena or whoever via pinch run or in the bottom half of the inning. Shocked it never happened with Rick Rhoden or some of the other good hitting pitchers.

That is just crazy talk - Since 2011, Cozart has an avg of .245 and Leake has an avg of .212 striking out 40% of his at bats. Bat him lead off, you couldn't get any worse.

:sssh: Don't tell the Brewers. Don't want them to get an advantage.

I know Byrd needs at bats to find his way out of his slump but I wouldn't mind seeing Boesch it left a bit more especially against righties. Boesch hasn't looked good either but did have a nice game the other night and it's hard to find a groove on the bench.

Byrd's bat is one of the slowest I've ever seen right now, hopefully it warms up with the heat of the summer. Of the hits he' has had most of those have been of the seeing eye variety, not many hard hit balls coming off his bat right now.
