April 22, 201511 yr I don't recall anyone saying Stephenson was ready yet. Cingrani has shown he doesn't have the control or secondary pitches to be a starter at this level. They have plenty of options better than Marquis. Axelrod, Lorenzen, Iglesias, Moscot...

He's not ready to catch yet, so why use him last night and basically be forced to play a man down another week or so? They should've just DL'd him and waited the 2 weeks (would've been eligible to return Tuesday) or so until he was healthy enough to catch.
April 22, 201511 yr Why is Stepehnson not up yet? Why not let him get better with the Reds, than run out Marquis every 5th start? Bringing up Stephenson now would be terrible for his development. He reminds a lot of people of Homer Bailey who struggled when he was brought up initially but thankfully was able to work his way out of it. Homer is still not everything people thought he was going to be but he's still a very good number 2 guy. Stephenson needs to prove he can get guys out and throw strikes at AA and AAA before he is ready. He's got future ace written all over him but needs time to fully develop to maximize the chance that he reaches that point. Lorenzen has always been a reliever/outfielder in college and is better served right now to help the Reds out of the pen while gaining big league experience. The same goes for Iglesias who has always relieved in the past. Either one of these guys would be an upgrade in he rotation over Marquis but Axelrod and Moscot are better candidates IMO. I'd love to see Moscot as the 5 starter with Iglesias and Lorenzen both in the pen at some point this year.
