April 23, 201511 yr Not really sure if some of you will ever be happy with the Reds and what moves they do or do not make. Everyone wants to rail on Phillips, but I will take him on my team any day of the week. He is hitting 4th because the others (Frazier, Bruce, Byrd, Mesoraco and whomever else are not capable). Take away Frazier's home runs and how many RBI does he have? This team is 8-7 and some act as if they are 2-13 or worse. It is April folks. Some things will get better and some things will get worse. This team could easily be 10-5 or 11-4 without some bullpen miscues, but such is life in a 162 game season.

I believe your best hitter should hit 3rd, no matter what. I know some people are nervous of pulling Votto out of the 2-hole but this isn't 2013-2014 Joey Votto. This is 2010-2012 (1st half) Votto, one of the best hitters in the game.
April 23, 201511 yr Frazier and Mesoraco are both much more capable 4 hole hitters than Phillips. The guy hasn't had an extra base hit in going on 75 ABs. That's atrocious from a middle of the order bat.

HR's are part of RBI's. That's like saying take away Joey Votto's walks and his on base percentage will go down.

That's atrocious from a middle of the order bat. Sure they are. A home run every 30th at bat will give you 70+ RBI. Neither can hit in the clutch, Frazier proved that again last night. Bottom line is that this team has one guy that understands what it means to be selective and a majority of which have absolutely no clue what they are doing at the plate. Frazier will swing at the first pitch every time up whether in the dirt, over his head or so far outside that he cannot reach it.

April 23, 201511 yr Some people's love affair with Phillips is comical. Guy is, at this point in his career, a slightly above average player, with an average bat.
April 23, 201511 yr Hamilton Cozart/Pena Votto Frazier Bruce Phillips Byrd Cozart/Pena So, I assume you've let your subscription to the "best hitter bats 2nd" lapse?
April 23, 201511 yr So, I assume you've let your subscription to the "best hitter bats 2nd" lapse? Nope. I'd love to bat Votto 2nd. With how Bruce, Phillips, and Byrd are hitting though, you have no one that can knock in runs. In a perfect world, I'd go Hamilton Votto Frazier Byrd Bruce Phillips Pena Cozart
April 23, 201511 yr Well, obviously I disagree with the best hitter 2nd thing, but on this team, I think your best chance is at the top to manufacture a run and there's not a worthy bat behind Votto in the Queen City. So, you have to take advantage of your best option to squeek out runs and that, IMO, is JV behind BH. Anything after that is a bonus. I know Cozart has been hot, but he's simply not a terrific handler of the bat and I sure hope he can take the approach to take some pitches at the top. If he can do that, then if BH is on, that puts JV in the best position obviously.
