Time to make an example.

Guy should never see the light of day again.

This happened near my hometown. South Carolina has had 11 police shootings this year alone. they've handled all of them very well, in my opinion.

 

What happened to this man is tragic, horrendous, and disgusting. Not only was he not a threat, he wasn't violent, and good lord he might as well have been skipping he was running so slow. How does shooting him int he back even come to that cops mind as an option? He was rightfully charged with murder and he will rightfully spend the rest of his life, or most of it, in a jail cell. I pray for the man who died, his family, and the family of this officer. Their lives are forever altered as well.

 

One thing to keep in mind is that this cop is not representative of all cops. There are bad cops out there, and this one got caught, thankfully. But for every bad cop, there are 10x more who go out and put their life on the line for all of us regardless of race. Sometimes they don't return home to their families either.

The officer needs to man up an plead guilty. Thats murder in that ally or in this hollar, kinda simple.

 

Im curious if this area has had cop issues in the past? The guys in the press conferences seem devastated about what has happened.

I agree but only if they start making examples out of people like Mike Browns step dad who started a riot by yelling burn this place down or the guy who flat out lied about Brown having his hands up it and the girl who made up the rape story in Rolling Stone

Something to know about this particular area in North Charleston is that it's a drug/prostitution hub. Charleston is a wonderful city. North Charleston is by far the low end when it comes to income, socioeconomic, etc. There have been complaints that a majority of the officers are white in that area dealing with a majority black population. Of all the areas down there, North Charleston is the one area you'd hear of people complaining about profiling, but that also has to do with much of the crime being populated there so naturally people feel they're being targeted. Hard to say.

 

One thing I can attest to, though, is that many will think SC or the south in general has race relation issues but I've experienced FAR more racial issues here in Cincinnati/NKY than I ever did in Charleston. I went to a school in Mt. Pleasant with 4000 people...very affluent to the low-end of the spectrum. We all got along. There were bad apples, but sports teams all integrated, social circles integrated, etc. Because of where we grew up, no one was scared to talk about the topic of race. We all knew about our history and what happened in our town. I think because the topic was socialized, it helped culture us and recognize how others treated people. We all visited the plantations together, the slave market downtown together, etc. And this may ruffle feathers, but the confederate flag wasn't a symbol of white vs black for us. I had black friends who had that flag on their cars. It was the south to us.

There's no but. If it is found that his actions were not justified he should get the maximum penalty. This situation has nothing to do with Mike Brown's step dad, witnesses in that case or the girl in Virginia.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I stated in my post that I can't see any justifiable reason for him to shoot the victim.

 

I just wonder if he will try and use that case as his defense.

Obviously this guy is straight up guilty of murder and I hope he goes away for the rest of his life. I am pro death penalty btw.

 

I will still defend police though because for every citizen shot by cops, there is a cop not going home tonight because of some fool. Aside from that, there are many more instances of the police helping people rather than hurting. Again, the media doesn't want you to see those stories though unless they need a feel good filler.

Should "the media" run a dozen stories of police officers doing "good things" every time a story like this surfaces?

After watching the video again I'm not even sure it's a viable defense. The guy didn't have the taser as he was running. There was no reason, that I can see, to shoot him.

 

I should clarify that even if he had the taser, I'm not saying that would have made it justified.

He also cuffed the guy as he was laying there dying.

When Police officers do good things it's common and also part of their job. and yes, it sometimes get's displayed on television. Gunning down and murdering innocent, non-violent suspects is not part of the job and it will end up on television every time.

I see lots of stories of police officers doing "good things" -- rescuing little children from cars, delivering babies inside vehicles, taking kids shopping for toys during Christmas, getting awards for valor from city councils, solving murder cases, on and on. No shortage of these stories.

 

Here, the facts of the case, as we know them, definitely make this an important, national news story.

 

Which us why someone started a thread on this.

Can you actually call that running away from the officer? I think I could have caught that guy as slow as he was moving.
