South Carolina Officer Charged With Murder

Featured Replies

That was sickening to watch a human being murdered. There was no eminent threat to anyone besides the victim. That cop needs to be treated and tried like any other murderer. let's forget about the badge. I'm normally pro police knowing what they have to do day in and out. that was 100% disreguard for that guys life. Calmly walked over to let him die. There was a sence of urgency to shoot, where was the urgency to save his life?

The guy was 50 and didn't look particularly fit. Why wouldn't the officers chase him down instead of shooting? I don't think it would have been hard.

If I was the person making the video, I would have been afraid that I might be next.

Yes it matters, was there a struggle before hand. Did the suspect commit a violent action towards the officer before he fired? Makes a huge difference. Mindset of the suspect is the same as mindset of the cop, need to know both.

Does not matter if they scuffled, at the point the cop shot him he was not in eminent danger of physical harm and his victim was unarmed. period.

What if he was trying to get the gun from the Cop?

He wasn't trying to get the gun from the cop when he was shot...

Didnt know he fired 8 x, didnt see the video with audio on. How did he change the crime scene?

He moved something black from near his position to near the injured man's body.

Plant I know you're just playing devils advocate but the video clearly shows at the point he used lethal force by shooting a man running away in the back, he was no longer in danger and not allowed to use lethal force just to apprehend him. Doesn't matter what he tried to do, which I doubt happened anyway. This cop got ticked off and shot him. No justification for what happened. Criminal or not he deserved the dignity to live and have his day in court. In saying that never run from police, because this stuff obviously happens.

I missed that, thanks.

Fair point, but we are missing the first part of what happened, which could be key.

Nothing justifies shooting a fleeing suspect who was unarmed....oh 8 times.

Just watch the video and watch how cool that officer is when he shoots 7 rounds, pauses, and fires number 8. It was like target practice. Sickening.

I think the Police Departments actions tells the story of this incident.

Sure to an extent, also a bit of damage control. I haven't heard any reports of rioting in the city as a result of him being charged so quickly.....

I really can't think of one event that may have happened before he took off on foot that would give the officer the right to shoot an unarmed man when there was no one else around that was in danger.

Simply a hypothetical sense you couldn't think of a circumstance in which it was justified. What if the guy thinks the officer is after him for a crime he committed that the officer is unaware of. In the altercation leading up to the shooting the guy says I can't believe they ratted me out I'm going to kill them all and anyone that tries to stop me. Then runs away..... Again this is just a hypothetical but you can't say there's absolutely no circumstances in which it can not be justified.

I don't believe this is at all what happened here I was just saying there are some circumstances that can change things.

Wow! The officers police report mentioned no word of a scuffle or physical altercation from what I have read to this point, but there was statements about things that apparently (according to video) did not occur. Beyond shooting Scott IN THE BACK as he ran away, the next stupid thing was to pick up evidence and place it next to the body. This officer is a disgrace to the badge and hopefully the court system will decide properly where he needs to be for the rest of his life.

Read my post, not arguing that the officer was wrong. but just saying we do not know what went down. The original criminal in this case did not heed the warning of an officer of the law and was gunned down. If he stops, listens, does what he is told-- does he get shot in the back?
