My issue is that fleeing was a minor thing. It appears, and if this is not your intention then I apologize, that you are attempting to obscure the true issue here. Yes, if he does not flee, then this event probably does not happen. You are correct there. However, he did flee, and that is the crux of the matter. He fled and was executed. There was a moment for the cop to collect his thoughts as the man started taking off, and he decided to end the man's life. Fleeing does not excuse that action.

 

In all of my posts I mention the cop did do wrong. My point is and always will be...

If you listen to a cop in the first place, do not challenge them, do not run from them, REALLY bad things are less likely to happen. In almost every case we see it starts with a bad guy not obeying and it ends up bloody. Whether the criminal has a gun or weapon on him is always unknown to the cop, what we do know is that cops are heavily armed.

 

Most cops are not bad guys, they put themselves in danger daily and seldom know what is lurking around the corner. Can't imagine walking into my job everyday wondering if I could get shot. They can't let their guard down for a minute or it could be their own life. Not saying this cop was a bad guy or good guy, but he was pushed to a point? panicked? got fed up? than reacted with a very poor decision I'm sure he regrets. I don't think shooting someone in the back was on his agenda while he drank his morning coffee.

^I think it's fairly safe to this officer is a piece of crap human being. If you murder someone in cold-blood as this cop did, you're a bad guy. Simple as that.

Read my post, not arguing that the officer was wrong. but just saying we do not know what went down. The original criminal in this case did not heed the warning of an officer of the law and was gunned down. If he stops, listens, does what he is told-- does he get shot in the back?

If every suspected criminal did what an officer asked of them, then being a police officer would a simple and easy job. But we are in the Real World and suspects flee, and officers have decisions to make. This guy was too lazy to start a foot pursuit, so he pulled his firearm and took the easy route.

 

As someone said earlier. Adults and Kids get spooked when caught doing minor things and run when police show up on scene. That does not give the officer the right to start moving target practice. Plain and Simple!!!

Suspects do run, and officers do pursue, this cop, for some reason-not saying it was justified, chose to shoot instead.

Police jobs are not easy because people do bad things. I wish their jobs were easier and we did not have crime, but we do.

Not once did I say this officer had the right to shoot.

I Did say if you don't run it drops your chances of getting a bad cop popping a cap in you.

These kids and adults who get spooked need to read the paper, watch the news, read BGP and they would realize if they run they could get shot. It seems to happen way too much.

I'm very impressed with the Scott family and their lawyer. I can't imagine what would come out of my mouth when that tv camera clicks on.

I think that the fact that police officer was indicted so swiftly helped ease tension, not pain, but tension. Had there been a "he said/she said," I don't believe that we'd see near the restraint. Honestly, I wouldn't have blamed them either.

Cop did run after him, something went on with the taser, whether guy who got shot grabbed at it or not we don't know. They struggled on the ground prior to the video starting to roll. Pretty sure original game plan by cop was not to shoot this man. Pretty sure he made a very bad decision to shoot him. Maybe his temper got the best of him after going for a jog and wrestling with a man he told to stop but wouldn't listen?
