April 7, 201511 yr Want to have a separate thread on this. Has officiating always been this bad? Or is it because of the media coverage now, all the bad ones are getting exposed?
April 7, 201511 yr I think it's finally reaching critical mass that it is becoming more and more in the spotlight. It's not just at the NCAA level. I think it is at all levels. I found this year to be rather unbearable at both the high school and college levels. Not sure as much on the NBA beyond those guys thinking it's about them.
April 7, 201511 yr It seems to me that officiating has become inconsistent. Perhaps some of that is because of attempts to "fix" the game like no hand checks, etc. You just never know what is going to be called and what isn't from game to game, or even half to half like we saw in the title game tonight.
April 7, 201511 yr Just in the tourney: UCLA wins on a controversial review called goal tend. The two missed out of bounds plays in second half. The shot clock violation on Wisky. Did these change the outcome? Who knows? But they were big bad calls among many.
April 7, 201511 yr The high school ninth region boys tournament was atrocious. Many college games this year were astounding. Not only with inconsistent determination of a foul, but also just flat out blown calls.
April 7, 201511 yr Are refs giving up? Being second guess with reviewable plays and monitors at the college game and people expecting perfection now at all levels - even MS - without 6 HD cameras surrounding the field of court of play. Why work on the right call when it can just be reviewed and overturned or the play will stop anyway - even if you know you got it 100% correct. Are refs ruining the game or is technology ruining the refs?
April 7, 201511 yr There would be less missed calls if players called the games themselves like pickup games. And I'm serious.

Are refs ruining the game or is technology ruining the refs? Technology can't be the blame given how little it is actually available to be used. They're blowing critical calls at times that you can't go to the monitor. And then it doesn't help when they fail to get right even when they do look at the monitor. I think people are still trying to figure out how Lyles doesn't at least get a flagrant 1 against Wisconsin. It may have been just a fingertip tonight but that one ball was off of Duke. Still got them wrong. Missing calls when players step on the baseline, missing calls when they come back in, shot clock violations, let a guy get mugged one half and then call a feather touch the next, the general joke that is the charge call, and on and on. No way that's all on technology.

I was adamant that he did not intend to strike the Wisconsin player while executing a swim move....until they replayed the angle of lyles coming towards the camera. It was completely intentional and he should have been ejected. I am a die hard cats fan, to put things in perspective. No idea how they determined there was no foul after 3.5 minutes of watching the same play over and over again.
April 7, 201511 yr I hear Bo Ryan just ripped the officials. He did. Said this game was called differently than every other game this season.

All season long, shots to the face/head have been ruled flagrant 1. It's amazing that they reviewed it and called nothing.
April 7, 201511 yr I hear Bo Ryan just ripped the officials. And apparently doesn't recruit "rent a players" yet recruited the hell out of Diamond Stone and Kevon Looney. I get being upset after a loss but dude is on another level right now. Basically said Duke won because they got away with a bunch of hand checks and other garbage. Wonder if he wants to talk about the shot clock violation basket for Hayes? Or how about the cheap calls that put Duke two best players on the bench majority of the game tonight? Duke naturally is a physical defensive team from what I've seen this year. You lost. Quit complaining Bo.
