Said at school tonite, field will be completed tomorrow with a walkthru on Thursday. Kids will be on the new field Friday! I saw it first hand tonite for the first time. It looks great.

My understanding was that he intended to be a basketball-only student athlete from the get-go. His parents urged him to give football a try last year prior to basketball starting up, and he did, but basketball won out.

If Jake works hard at developing his body (and his foot speed), he could return to football in a couple years if that's what he wants to do.

He will be pushing 7' tall soon, most likely way too tall for football.

 

Smart move to just stay with basketball, plus he loves bball

What will Coach Eviston and the Colonels need to to in order to be successful this season?

 

How many key positions do they have to replace players in?

 

How many starters will they return over all?

 

Who will the remaining position coaches be?

 

Will any other assistant coaches from years past make a return on Coach Eviston's staff?

 

How many wins can they come away with in a schedule like theirs?

 

How will they perform in district competition?

 

And the the annual "big one":

Will the Colonels beat Highlands this year?

 

1) They will need to be mentally tough. New staff, new kids stepping into starting roles and an incredibly tough schedule. Overcome that and they will be prepared for anything the playoffs throw at them.

 

2) Key positions to replace: QB- Mayer has the size, strength and mentality of a tier 1 QB. I expect great improvement as the year goes on. Alex Wagner will be missed as the do it all defender and occasional offensive player. I love the fire that Terry Brown instills- I feel like several names will come to the forefront here.

 

3) Returning Starters- Not perfectly accurate but: at least three members of the O line led by Reisiger- four if you count Ziegelmeyer who started at TE last year. Darlington returns at Running Back. McGinness at WR. Several WR's come back who saw varsity time. Defensively there's Stiens and Shields up front, Shelton, Timmerman, Sammons behind them and Pitzer and Best in the Secondary- plus again, a lot of kids who saw varsity minutes.

6) I can see 6 wins which would be huge with this schedule.

 

7) No less than 2nd place in their district- possibly winning it

 

8) Yes- they certainly can. While JV and Frosh success is not an overwhelming indicator of future success, the Colonels have handled themselves well the past few years against Highlands on those levels- mores than in years past anyway.

That is a cool picture. Field looks great. Didn't see the large CCH in the South west corner of the complex. That must be way up there.
