What would the Owensboro Red Devils record be if they played in the WNBA?

Featured Replies

Aric Holman is 6'9"

Justin Miller is 6'7"ish and 270ish. Sweet 16 MVP.

There is not a woman alive who can handle a good 6'9" man on the blocks...let alone a 270lb skilled guy. I am going with 34-0 with almost all for all of them being double digit wins. I actually think any decent high school team is going to win far more games against WNBA teams than they lose. Apples and oranges in terms of athletic ability.

I'm taking a good HS boys team over a WNBA all star team and I'm 100% serious.

There are a lot of good women shooters and it's fun during the McDonald's All American game to see the women's winner compete against the men in a 3pt contest. But that isn't the game.

This isn't sexist it's nature. Men are born more athletic and stronger than women . There are exceptions to all rules but in General bet the men.

I could see some struggles, but I could also seem some teams Notre Dame them with skill and guile :lol2:

Kinda like when you see the young guys at the Y dominating everyone then the group of slow, can't jump 30 or 40 somethings come in and beat them to death game after game.

See, Owensboro plays old-guy ball as well as any team in the state. So that's not gonna be a problem there.

If they lose, it's once, and probably for laughs. Whoever is the best pressing team in the WNBA will turn it over more against Owensboro. Hell, that was one of O'boro's best attributes is that they didn't turn the ball over. If they didn't turn the ball over against the best boys teams in Ky, they'll take care of it against girls.

If the guys play serious, they dominate. I appreciate women's sports, but there's no denying the physiological difference. It's still a big deal when women dunk. I see more dunks in HS boys now than I ever have.

At the risk of sounding sexist, there is no way that any woman would be able to stop Justin Miller if he catches the ball on the block. Heck, there not to many men that can slow him down, unless they have a height advantage. He is simply too big and too strong.

And too skilled. He'd foul out every team's post players.

The better question is how would a WNBA team ever beat a talented high school boys team? Boys are too strong. Boys are too big. Not sure how the WNBA players would get good looks.

Completely agree

I think they would do well.

While a girls varsity high school coach, I often scrimmaged the freshmen boys team. Regardless of how good my girls team was, and how ordinary the freshmen boys were, the freshmen won all of the time.

Ray Kues did the same thing, the only way he kept it competitive was by playing for the girls team himself in those scrimmages.

I am leaning towards the "domination by Owensboro" thinking.

Does anyone think that these women being seasoned professional athletes could balance the scales a little bit? At first I was thinking 34-0 but after thinking about it some more I'm not so sure anyone on Owensboro's team could stop some of the standout talent in the WNBA. Taurasi is smart enough to pick her spots and she is no slouch. She also can make her teammates better and her cerebral game is likely higher than anyone on Owensboro's team. I do think Owensboro would win at least 20 games but teams like Phoenix and Minnesota with Maya Moore will give them problems.

Nope. Whole different level of speed and physicality.

I think Owensboro could go to the post 100 consecutive times and the WNBA team would have no answer.

The fact that the WNBA has some of the best, if not the best, women's players in the world, makes me wonder how a high school team would do. That being said, I have a little experience with the question. In my college days, a bunch of guys from the baseball team were at the gym playing basketball. A few members of the girls hoops team showed up and challenged us to a game. Our girls team was a nationally ranked D2 team (the baseball team played D1). We ran several games with them, playing with the smaller women's ball and killed them every single time. Only one of us was a great high school basketball player (John Mabry, former major leaguer, and current Cardinals hitting coach, who was an all-state basketball player in Maryland). The rest of us were just good to very good players. The girls were able to score off some of their offensive sets, but they tried everything defensively and couldn't stop us. They got few rebounds and couldn't score anything in the paint. If a bunch of high school hacks can run a top 25 D2 girls team, a very good high school team, I think could hang in the WNBA, especially if they had some skilled bigs. Since these are some of the best women's players in the world, I think the women would win a few games.

The top 5 or 6 teams in KY would all go 34-0. If a boys HS team has a few D1 players, they would dominate the WNBA. WAAAYYYY to quick and athletic.
