None , they are ALL charlatans . Looking to enrich themselves at the expense of the naive .

As I and Getslow mentioned, Fulton Sheen was always humble who just loved to teach. Fr. Francis Mary was similar........just fell in love with a woman and couldn't keep his vow so he voluntarily stepped aside.

When I first saw this topic I thought this must be a thread to "bait" me. But when I noticed guru being the author , I took it as a serious question. My response: Stay the hell away from ALL of them !!!!!! Every damn one of them would take every last penny from a widow's little paltry savings. I will say Osteen has nice teeth and a permanent smile. He preaches a lot of "power of positive thinking" and , quite frankly, a lot of New Age philosophy. Peter Popov will send you some miracle healing water. The one that has the most appropriate name is CREFLO DOLLAR. Yes, that's his name! Benny Hinn has the power to make you fall flat on your back with the wave of his hand. I used to get a kick out of watching him until it went from amusing to just plain sad. If there was a God , he would insist that you avoid all these characters like the plague.

So far I have checked out Billy Graham and Joel Osteen.

 

I am also going to check out someone here on BGP that sent me a link of their Christmas sermon and probably a couple of others.

 

 

Graham I do have respect for. I believe, for the most part, he probably believes most of the nonsense that he has preached over the years. I don't like his son , Franklin. I have little or no respect for most of the televangists. I don't believe for an instant that they believe a word of the stuff they preach. They may be charlatons but they know psychology and they're not dumb.

Benny Hinn is flat out awesome to watch. I know that's not what you're looking for but it needs to be said.

I'm with Jumper Dad on this one. Billy Graham is the man and they re-run a lot of his old taped Crusades events on some of the religious channels. I will catch one every once in a while...might be from the early 60's or mid 70's...really doesn't matter, the basic theme is always the same, and very biblically based. usually in a big arena or stadium with thousands and thousands of people listening. Watched one here recently, was speaking at the old Cowboys stadium when it had just opened.

 

As for Joel Osteen and his like...please stay away from those guys. They don't teach the biblical gospel, but rather this "feel good" prosperity gospel that isn't scripture based at all. Believe in God, be good, work hard and you will always be happy and have lots of money. Not how it works.

 

 

I'm with Osteen on this one. That IS how it works. Law of Attraction is a Universal Law. Focus your thoughts on bad things and you will manifest bad things. You and only you are responsible for what happens to you in life. Osteen knows where the real power is- the power is in the human mind.

Why the cheapshot, you always end up going there. We get it you don't believe in God and you only have faith in want science can't show you (Aliens, Big Bang Evolution). But you continue to degrade the faith and religion of many on this site at every turn. I just don't see what you get out of it.

 

For someone that doesn't believe in something you sure spend a lot of time and energy speaking against it. Guru, I think was sincere in what he was asking in this thread.

I may know it, but I obviously don't practice or preach it. Osteen may know the Bible, but he certain doesn't practice or preach it.

Has anybody here tried listening to Francis Chan?

The Rev. Robert Schuller of Crystal Cathedral fame died yesterday. He was ahead of his time in establishing a model for today's non-denominational mega churches in the 'burbs. There wasn't much theology in Schuller's messages, but for many years he was quite successful broadcasting "Hour of Power" from his beautiful house of worship in Southern California. I'm sure you can find samples of his preaching on youtube.

There's not a single television evangelist I would recommend.

 

A non-TV guy I would recommend is Tim Keller.

 

I haven't listened/watched any of his sermons, but have read his books. They are outstanding.
