Televangelist you would recommend to a friend

Featured Replies

I have been wanting to check out a good Televangelist to see what they have to say about things in general.

I would like to hear recommendations on the one or two you think I should give my time to?

I don't have any use for them, but the wife listens to Joel Osteen with some regularity.

This is a joke, right?!

No, I am dead serious.

I didn't say I was embracing anything or changing my position on anything.

In short, I am an open minded guy and I want to hear what the "best" in each field have to say.

I have to agree with McPapa, when get on TV, they seem to go awry. I don't know if you are/were Catholic but I like to watch old reruns of Fulton Sheen. He was one of the first Catholics on television that many Protestants had to admit they really liked. He seemed to never let it go to his head. He won some TV award back in his hey day. In his acceptance speech, he famously stated: "I would like to pay tribute to my four writers." Everyone paused because it had always been stated he wrote most if not all of his own material. He then continued, "Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John".

I liked Father Francis Mary when he was on TV but unfortunately a widowed woman came to him for support and ahhhhh they are a couple now............opps. So he is no longer in ministry. LOL

I am agnostic with no religious affiliation ever.

I just want to learn.

I don't know much about any of them, have never watched a one. I get the idea that televangelists are not where you want to start if you're interested in learning about religion.

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was the best -- and truthfully, the first -- the Catholic Church ever put in front of a camera. I think you can still see old rebroadcasts on EWTN a couple times a week. Not really wild about any of the other folks.

I am not really looking to learn about religion, I want to hear what they have to say. If I learn something about religion great, but that is not the point.

I'm not sure what you can learn from a televangelist besides who to make the check out to and where to mail it.

I did not realize the "ever" part, I was thinking you had a religious affiliation (Catholic or Protestant) but drifted away.

No, family is mostly Catholic and more power to them.

I was fortunate, nothing (I am being broad here) was ever forced down my throat growing up.

You can expect Mother Angelica to be at your house with a ruler in hand mister!

Definitely agree about Fulton Sheen. He never seemed to be "corrupted" by his fame, he just enjoyed teaching.

Fr. Corapi used to just enjoy teaching but the fame got to his head. Obviously considering his superiors ordered him to end his public ministry. Not sure what he is doing now. Wouldn't surprise me as a way to teach him humility if he hasn't been put into a very lowly role.

I guess you learn that even God needs money.
