So funny story...

 

I don't drink anymore. I have a lot of friends that still do ( I am in my late 20s). I make it known that I will pretty much drive anyone anywhere in NKY if I am available. So the night before Thanksgiving I end up taking a crew up to Mount Adams to their friends' apartment. I drop them off about 3 blocks from the bar area. They get out and I'm flirting with the girl who was my passenger hard while the other guys are getting out of the back. At the moment a very intoxicated 20something gets in my car and says "Take me to Oakley." I politely told him that I was not Uber. He did not process this. In fact during the 25 minute wild goose chase we took with his drunken directions he inferred I was Uber at least half a dozen times and each time I advised him I was not. But it all worked out when he gave me a twenty at the end of the trip. It was a pretty good night tip wise.

My friends who go to UK use it ALL the time. Unfortunately I live in a small town with little to no Uber or Lyft drivers, but there have been plenty of nights where I wished I had it.

For me, it was different because...well I can't really explain why it was different but trust me, it was.

I've used Lyft in Nashville before. Got paired up with an Iraqi guy that was really interesting. Kind of random, but he sent me a Merry Christmas text 9 months later. Only time I've heard from him since that ride.

I'll go ahead and be the one to say it, but using Uber means you'll have a driver that won't act like they don't know English very well and "accidently take the longer way because they missed a road". And I hate the way it sounds, but its a reality.

I would guess it would have to do with a personal auto policy normally having an exclusion for commercial use. An Uber driver would likely need to have their auto policy endorsed for that kind of business. I'd imagine that a lot of the drivers either don't know this or don't want to pay the extra premium.

Two of my sons - in Nashville and Chicago - use it all the time, and they rave about it.

MrsC and I use Uber mutiple times a a month.

 

There are 4 different Ubers, depending on where you are at. Uber X, Uber XL, Uber Blackcar, and Uber SUV.

 

Don't know how some of you paid more, UberX is usually half the cost of a taxi.

 

Taxi from Newark to Manhattan is $125 plus tip. UberX is $65 tip included. Taxi from Tampa airport to my house is $56 plus tip. UberX is $31 tip included.

 

I been in at least 100 Uber rides and have never had one get lost or take wrong turns. If that happened to you you should report them to Uber.

 

The longest I have ever waited is 11 minutes. In a bigger city it is seldom more than 3-4 minutes.

 

Never have I had a rude driver. In fact many of them have bottled water and/or mints for their passengers.

 

An Uber Black Car has been a caddy or Lincoln each time, is typically about the same as a taxi.

 

Uber SUV seats 5-6 and there is no upcharge per person. One flat rate.

Never once in at least a 100 Uber rides.

Uber drivers maintain $1 million in insurance per ride. Taxi's do what the state requires. Typically less than $250,000.

It's my understanding that it is a flat rate so that a longer route means nothing except perhaps a longer trip in terms of time. Also no cash changes hands and no tipping. Furthermore, it's the same price regardless of how many passengers are on the fare.

Not Uber, but when we went to Anaheim, we flew into Long Beach, and we arranged taxis to pick us up at the airport in advance. We get there and there were 3 Prius' lined up waiting. Our driver drove his Prius like it was a Ferrari, and were there in no time. Flat out the most fun taxi ride I've ever had.
