Any BGPers Tried Uber Yet?

Never once in at least a 100 Uber rides.

Right. I'm saying that's the advantage of using Uber vs. a regular taxi.

I've used it in a handful of cities and I love it. In Indy 2 weeks ago, it was snowing like a muther. No cabs in sight, I hit the Uber app. At first it said 1.5 X normal fee and when I decided to commit it asked me if I would accept a 2.1 X charge. I agreed, cost me 7 bucks or so to go 7-8 blocks in a snow covered street and sidewalk mess. Well worth it. Many cabs have liability only so they won't even go out in the snow.

Huge fan.

I use Uber very frequently -- at least once per week on average & frequently I will use it more than that. It is an exceptional service, and the customer service has always been very good.

You have to be careful about the "surge" fares. "Surges" occur when Ubers are in high demand. Ubers can become VERY expensive VERY fast during a surge, but the app makes it very clear that there is a surge & rates are higher. Sometimes it will be 1.5x higher, but I have seen as high as 7x (like New Years' Eve).

I'd highly recommend it to anyone that is looking to go out to have a few drinks, or just doesn't want to pay for parking. This winter, I frequently used it in situations where I would have to pay for parking then walk a short distance to my destination. An uber allows me to pay a similar price & get dropped off at the front door.

Kind of like those deals you would get at a oriental message joint? ;)

I am wondering. Has anyone ever kissed an Uber?

I'll go ahead and be the one to say it, but using Uber means you'll have a driver that won't act like they don't know English very well and "accidently take the longer way because they missed a road". And I hate the way it sounds, but its a reality.

I have had a driver take the wrong route twice. Neither time was a big deal, but the driver certainly failed to take the shortest route to my destination. When I reviewed my receipt via email, I rated the driver & wrote a brief comment that the driver took the wrong route. Both times, an Uber customer service representative contacted me (via email) and recalculated my fare based on the route we should have taken. It was done within 24-48 hours.

I was very impressed.

I thought "no kissing" was part of the deal? :idunno:

Ain't no Ubers like a Nashville Uber.

In saying that, what have I read about passengers not being covered by an Uber driver's insurance?

I would guess it would have to do with a personal auto policy normally having an exclusion for commercial use. An Uber driver would likely need to have their auto policy endorsed for that kind of business. I'd imagine that a lot of the drivers either don't know this or don't want to pay the extra premium.

Here is a link that explains Uber's insurance coverage, which varies depending on which type of car you order:

https://support.uber.com/hc/en-us/articles/202347808-In-the-US-what-insurance-is-available-if-there-s-an-accident-

If you’re taking a ride requested through UberBLACK, UberSUV, or uberTAXI, your livery or taxi transportation provider carries a commercial insurance policy in at least the minimum amount required by local regulations. If you didn’t get his or her insurance information at the time of the accident, please reach out to us so we can connect you.

If you’re taking a ride requested through uberX, some transportation providers are rideshare drivers providing transportation with their personal vehicles. Rideshare providers carry personal insurance policies. However, there’s a commercial insurance policy for ridesharing with $1 million of coverage per incident. This policy covers drivers’ liability from the time a driver accepts your trip request through the app until the completion of your trip. This policy is expressly primary to the driver’s personal auto policy. An additional insurance policy covers drivers when they are logged into the Uber app but have not yet accepted a trip request.

There is also uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (UI/UIM) of $1 million per incident for bodily injury, in case another motorist causes an accident and doesn’t carry adequate insurance. So, for example, injuries caused by a hit-and-run accident would be covered by the UI/UIM.

Thanks for the information guys. I remember reading about it when Uber was first starting to get bigger about a year ago and hadn't read anything since.

That's awesome. Definitely an advantage of using Uber. It annoys me more than anything with taxis...hard to trust them.

I'm sorry, my brain registered the opposite

Use it all the time and love. When I start thinking about leaving I pull up the app and check out how quickly one can come. Just have to be smart about the surge pricing. Overall, I highly recommend.

I used it from the Olde Fort Pub on one end of town to the other side of town. It was the best $7:34 I thimk I have ever spent. Will use again!
